2023-01-02 - Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (1968)

This book is famous because it's the novel that inspired the movie Blade Runner (1982), and that's why I chose it, because I really love that movie. I also played the video game from the 90s a LOT, because it was bundled with my first computer.

Well, saying that the movie was inspired by this book is way more accurate, that talking about an adaptation. While it reuse some parts of its universe and story elements, they are quite different. We're still following a cop/bounty hunter who's tracking down androids though, in a very dark dystopian future, so all is safe.

It's a nice and short read. Our hero tries to figure out who is an android and who is lying. He kick some asses. There is a weird romance that seems quite out of place. Everybody seems to be really high on that Mercer thing. And boom, that's it.

I'm sure that there are some kind of analyzes that can be extracted from the relationship between androids and humans. The brilliant idea of the empathy test. Etc. But honestly it reads really well as a sci-fi thriller.
