February 2024

Posted on 2024-02-29

Second monthly update in a row, let's try to make it recurring thing! February was once again focused on updating my blog!

Blog update

Last month I started some updates on my blog to join the IndieWeb… And that put me in a path of many changes and updates to my blog. I found the joy of my internet beginning with many small tweaks and improvement. I also want to make my website more and more my central place on the web and thus the "source of truth" in term of content I'm publishing on it and elsewhere.

In a nutshell, I:

Worked on a new [minimalist theme]. Too bad I did that after updating the previous one with the IndieWeb markup, but now I have my own custom hugo theme, minimalist and IndieWeb ready :)

Small navigation improvement to simplify browsing the website, like [tagging old message], adding [next / prev articles] navigation or [related articles] or automating a ["coffee warning"] for long post

The [new homepage] is leaner and lighter, and the header and footer were updated too

I added new content types, with a list of [Bookmarks] and [static pages]. Bookmarks [are retrieved during the build from linkding API]. In the future, I'm most probably going to add a "note" content type

Updated some [public well known text files]: `/robots.txt', `/humans.txt' and `/.well-known/security.txt'

I reworked from scratch my deployment process that now uses SourceHut CI. I haven't write about this yet as it still need polishing, but a (long) blog post will be published in March about it

Writings

I'm happy about 2 things this month: my first participation to the IndieWeb carnival and the number of article I wrote in total.

For those unfamiliar, the [IndieWeb Carnival] is a monthly event where each month, the host (change every month) share a topic that participant needs to write about. This month, the topic was [Digital Relationship]. As I liked both the idea and the topic, I decided to write a non usual blog post to participate. I won't participate each month, but gladly try to get out of my comfort zone from time to time if and when the topic inspire me.

FWIW, I do believe that something similar could occur in the gemini space too.

Also, it seems that I published 13 blog posts during February. Granted most are short posts about updates on the blog itself, but still a personal record in term of posts per month… 14 if I count gemini article… And even more with the different static pages and bookmarks I published.

Gemini

Not much to share on the gemini front, but the good news is that all the changes made on my website raised some ideas for my gemini capsule, so maybe I'll have update on that front sometime "soon-ish". One thing I want to do is publish not only my blog on gemini like now, but also the other content (bookmarks, pages and maybe notes --as tinylog?--when they arrive)

Travel

This month was light in travel, only had to go to Limoges once. Because of the lack of train between where I live and there, I had to drive instead… Only one small trip this month was great, but next month will be heavier in term of travel though.

Other

Not much too say otherwise, a quiet month :). Not many new manga to buy, and while I bought 4 new books, I haven't read one of them fully yet.

I'm not used to these kind of review yet, but by continuing writing them I should be at some point :).

Have a good month of March!
