First glimpses at geminispace

Welcome to my capsule. I'm not yet sure what content it will hold and how to set it all up, but I just had to spin one up myself. In the presence of the bloated monstrosity that is the modern web, gemspace feels like something fresh and cool, much like the web initially was in the 90's. The past few days I've glimpsed at the known geminispace and I really like what I see. Gemini protocol first entered my reality from some Mastodon toot, I guess. After watching a few Peertube videos on the topic, I was intrigued to try it myself.

Fast forward a few days, and I'm spinning up my own capsule. Registering a domain, configuring the server, cursing at the typos in systemd unit files... all that goodness. I can do all these things relatively easily, but the kicker is; I never bothered to do these things to host a personal website on the web. It seemed pointless. Yes, I had a personal websites in the late 90's, but they all were something rushed for a school project, or just by fast editing some ISP's site generator form that would spit out a terrible website with blinking marquees and animated gifs, that would proclaim to the void: "Site under construction". I never even considered blogging. Well at least I've microblogged via Twitter and Mastodon, but that doesn't really count. I feel the urge to build something in geminispace, that's something I haven't felt in the internet since the early days. Let us go boldly, there's much to do and see!
