Hello

In very first post of my gemlog, I thought it would be nice to write briefly about myself. This should be a good start to something meaningful.

Demographics

I am a forty year old man with a very recent self diagnosis of ADHD who is trying to understand his very nature so he can live the remaining days of his life in the most useful and peaceful way. I am married to a gorgeous woman and father of two gorgeous children. Professionally, I am an MBBS since 2008, general surgeon since 2014 and an intensivist since 2021. Also, I am a Londoner since 25/07/2022.

Jazz

I have an affection for jazz since my early childhood. The first time I heard classical jazz on our radio, I was hooked. Since then it has been an essential part of my life. While my most favourite genre to listen to is jazz, I am lacking theory, practice and fellow musicians to be able to play this genre (please see below). Besides, my favourite instrument would be the upright which is quite expensive for my budget.

Bass

I am an electric bass player since December 2000. To this date I had two electric basses. Both of them are Squiers. One Indonesian P-Bass Special and one Chinese Classic Vibe 60s Jazz Bass. I actively play the latter one. I have a band and we generally play blues and classical rock with some funk vibes. Hoping to get back on stage at some point.

Lo-Fi

I have a soft spot for Lo-Fi. I like the genre itself as it's quite peaceful. It has a charm like a cup of coffee does... or a minimalist computer setup.

Radio

I love listening to radio, because it's so simple as in plug and play. As above, I have ADHD, and I can really develop decision paralysis quite quickly. Also, compared with streaming services, I find radio more indie, organic and lively. My favourite stations are Radio Swiss Jazz, WRTI Jazz and Giants of Jazz Radio, Clouds Lo-Fi Radio (which is rather a playlist located on a website).

GNU/Linux

I am a GNU/Linux enthusiast. My first ever GNU/Linux experience was with Slackware in 2003 which did not last long.

In 2005 I installed Debian Sarge and fell in love with it. Unfortunately back then I had a feeling that I had to stick with Microsoft Office which mandated me using various versions of Windows. Nevertheless, I spent some time with Gnome 2 versions of Ubuntu while it was bearing a really valuable message to say the least.

As of 01/01/2024, I am back to using Debian GNU/Linux stable branch. I am quite keen on stability and sustainability. Having five years of support without having to reinstall is very appealing.

I love Gnome's workflow which I am intending to detail in the future.

Roots

I always liked the idea of man's roots. I think we are meant to come back to our roots again and again and I think this clearly provides fulfilment to one's life. Creation, contribution, being sensible, communicative and helpful rather than seeking one's own interest.

Writing

I always wanted to write, and especially blog regularly. I am well aware of that I am not a professional writer and I am not intending to change anybody's life with my insights or ideas, but this is my heritage. If I can add value or insight to at least one mind, I will feel fulfilled.

Vision

I am intending to use this weblog to achieve a couple of objectives:

Share my ideas which is the result of actions of complex network formed by outer events, my personality, responses and reflections.

Form a heritage for my children, wife, family, friends, acquaintances and rest of the world. I want to leave something meaningful behind me when I die.

I am intending to keep the this weblog in a journal format and things probably will change, because they always do.

And I am glad that you are here.
