So I finally installed 9front. I had never really consciously used virtualisation software (qemu in this case) before (though have of course used virtual machines in the form of interpreters and little systems like pico-8 and such).

It was surprisingly easy to set up going that route. I had been wanting to try plan9 for a good while and finally got to do so... and oh man did I hate it. I knew going in that it was a very mouse driven system, but I was not prepared for how much I would hate that. I almost never touch a mouse on any of my current systems, so it is a big shift.

I liked the window manager and being able to just draw out windows. I also liked that applications replace the contents of the window. The rest of my experience was extremely confusing and right now in my life just isnt something I want to spend my time figuring out. Someday maybe when I have more time and energy to devote... I am sure there are a lot of good ideas in there... but for now I think I'm happy with BSD.

I know a lot of you out there in gopher/gemini space are using Plan9, particularly of late... I'd love to hear more about how you adapt to the system (or have it adapt to you). The simplicity of the gui is great, I just really really really hate using a mouse. :-/
