Chocolate Sprinkles

A streamer I like recently made an observation about a game he was playing that gave me the perfect term for describing a lot of different thoughts I have. To give a bit of context, this streamer called Juzcook plays Super Mario World Romhacks, which means that he plays a game derived from Super Mario World. Early romhacks just reorganized existing materials and didn't add anything new, although it did play strongly with the quirks and funny side effects of how things work in the game. This is called a Vanilla hack. It is also possible to write new elements using ASM, that add completely new behaviour to the game. A hack using this is called a Chocolate hack.

For a long time many streamers played basically just Vanilla hacks, because so many people overdid the Chocolate. But as Juzcook observed, just a bit of Chocolate can make an otherwise Vanilla hack so much more fun. As such, Chocolate Sprinkles.

When we look at politics, I think constant improvement is absolutely necessary, but it just goes way too fast for many people. I think there lies the value in conservatism: trying to make sure everyone is on board by their capabilities, even if they are still only capable of using a rotary phone. We might need to have a Chocolate Sprinkles approach to world politics: see what is absolutely broken, and when fixing it making sure that everyone can actually enjoy it. We need a lot of improvement, but we shouldn't lose sight over what makes things good as they are, and we shouldn't be too quick to lose them.

Another way to put this, and how best to accomplish this, is that we need to be strongly in touch with our communities, and be ready to recreate local communities, because we lost many local community bonds over time. That is something we are slowly working on as the community of the Bahá'í faith, but nothing should stop you to work on this. Then in your local community keep in strong connection with the local needs, and make sure nobody gets stuck behind.
