President Reagan famously said, "Trust and Verify"

'''

The short answer is Yes (overall)

Based on a couple of articles by the New York Times[NYT](see links below) it would seem that New York state may be fiddling with their numbers at least as far as Covid-19 deaths in nursing homes are concerned. This according to a report released by the New York state's Attorney General. The second example is from the NYT's Covid19 Github repository in a readme file named, "NEW-YORK-DEATHS-METHODOLOGY" which begins by saying,

"Starting with data for Aug. 6, we are switching to reporting deaths in New York State by county of residence instead of the county in which the death took place...."

The other example comes from **Sweden**. Sweden is only recording Covid-19 numbers Tuesday - Friday. As a result, Saturday - Monday's numbers are added onto Tuesday which results in the plots be skewed. But the total weekly number is correct(see link).
