Just kidding, april fools.

Got the keys yesterday, plus a check. Our awesome realtor figured out they charged us for things we didn't have to pay, so instead of us bringing them money, they paid us $275. Not bad. Alaska is a weird state where the seller pays for inspection and appraisals. We'd fronted the money and we got paid back.

We also got the letter of "legal nonconforming status" from the muni just in time to have it recorded with the sale. Our realtor says most agents won't give it a second thought now and it will not cause a problem should the time come to sell. Whatever strings got pulled sure worked because we got it in under a week when it normally takes 2-3 weeks. Turns out we can rebuild the house exactly as is, should it be destroyed, we just can't build MORE in the naughty zone. Fair. So that all worked out.

I blessed the shit out of the house first thing before we moved anything in. I ran around the four corners of the property scattering beer and bread (tricky when the snow is still 2-3' deep) as a "hello property, let's be friends" gesture. I smudged the house with the very last of my sage, then i misted everything with salt water, and then i burned frankincense and palo santo. That ought to do it. Any bad juju from previous occupants, begone. Spouse made complainy noise because i did it while he was working so he was left out, but woo woo stuff just isn't his thing and he probably just would have been bored. He's really warming up to the house and seeing little things he can fix up. It's adorable. I knew he would like it. (He'd like it better if it were cheaper i'm sure, but them's the breaks in 2022.)

We brought the kitties over this morning. Other Cat had a rough time. She knew something was up for days and she wanted no part of it, so we had to trap her like a wild animal and it was upsetting. She is currently in a safe spot in a pillowcase under the bed pillow. Too much strangeness. Cat is quite pleased. He loves the bay window with the panoramic view of the front yard, as i knew he would. Other Cat will warm up as she gets used to the new environment, i am sure.

So here we are, feeling very 'dult. Got a backyard and a garage and everything.
