Last time I made spotchka was using someone's online recipe that called for blue curacao. Well, the liquor store was out. So I got hpnotiq instead, which is an aqua blue color. Theoretically a person could use whatever and add blue food coloring, but that seems like cheating and also required too much thinking to settle on a new flavor. No. Spotchka is orange/citrus flavored and that's that. I've never had hpnotiq, the labels says it tastes like "orange and passionfruit" so I decided to just sub it in. It is more expensive than blue curacao.

Anyway, it worked well. This makes for a pale blue, opalescent drink that is as close to "glowing" as someone could get without real fluorescing.

1 part hypnotiq

1 part vodka (or more/less to tweak alcohol content)

4 parts fresca

tiny dab of snowy river cocktail glitter - turquoise (optional but does look very very nice)

Tried this with orange cream flavored seltzer base too and we all agreed def not as good as fresca. Other possible base option to try: pina colada fanta. I am still burned by the pina colada hard seltzer experience, but it has a similar pale white milky color as the fresca and I bet it would work nicely. Coconut water might work too.

We bought a glass pitcher and cups set from Target specifically for serving spotchka and this is the first chance we've had to try it out. I mixed the spotchka in the pitcher and set it out for people to serve themselves, easy peasy. It looked VERY star wars cantina. Thick, greenish glass in a straight walled shape, similar to a mint julep glass. I bet mexican artisan bubble glass would look really nice for serving too.

The cocktail glitter is $10 for a small vial, but very little gives a nice effect. Plenty left over for many more pitchers. It does make the soda fizz up so don't add it to a full pitcher or you'll get spillover and wasted beverage. Guess who has to mop her sticky kitchen floor today?
