The HDMI dongle came in so I have the loaner monitor hooked up and am messing with Hondo. I figured out how to get a command line ascii art program to work and that's my big win for the day. It may be a dumb strategy but when I'm trying to learn something I pick a task and just go at it every which way until it works. I usually figure out 5 ways it doesn't work, but that's learning too. I'm remembering unix commands like excavating ancient relics. It's going okay except the bluetooth keyboard can't keep a connection, and I'm remembering why wired mice suck. I don't have a proper workspace so everything is willy-nilly on the coffee table. I got bombadillo working but that may be too steep a curve for me right now. I may need a graphical interface for a bit.

I'm working on getting the scanner running. Seems like sane will support my model but I have to get a different backend library of configurations or something. I got gimp working but the scanner won't work through it either. It's a common cheap scanner, chances are good something somewhere will work. I get the scanner working and I'm more or less golden.

Went for a walk this morning. There is a nicely maintained path around a small nearby lake. Have yet to see the otter that supposedly lives on the little island in the center. Ducks and geese and squirrels, mostly. Too chilly for turtles. Supposedly we may get snow, but I am skeptical. There is no snow in the land of crab.
