All of them are powered by Linux kernel 6.8 and include the same updated core components and applications like the Ubuntu 24.04 LTS release. However, they come with updated desktop environments and several other enhancements, such as Ubuntu’s Flutter-based installer for all flavors except Kubuntu, Lubuntu, and Ubuntu Unity, which use the Calamares graphical installer.
Kubuntu 24.04 LTS and Ubuntu Studio 24.04 LTS both ship with the latest KDE Plasma 5.27 LTS desktop environment by default, namely KDE Plasma 5.27.11, which is accompanied by the KDE Gear 23.08.5 and KDE Frameworks 5.115 software suites, all compiled against the Qt 5.15.13 LTS open-source application framework.

> This was first reported by OMG Ubuntu and It's FOSS, but it's something I experienced early on when I was testing the daily releases of Ubuntu 24.04.
> The issue is how Canonical has secretly forced Snap installation on users. Previously, if you were to download a .deb file from the internet, the software installer GUI would open and prompt you to install the app.
> That no longer happens. Instead, the file is downloaded and that's that. If you double-click the file, instead of an installer opening, the Archive tool opens, which is of no help to users.
> To take this further, it looks as if the Software app defaults to Snap packages for everything now. I combed through various apps and found this to be the case.
> I was able to find an exception with the Clementine audio player, which is no longer in development. When searching for that app, two versions appear – the Snap and .deb packages. But if you only search for Clementine and hit Enter, the Snap package is the only one you see. Run the search and wait for the drop-down to populate, and you'll see two different versions – one listed as a Snap package and one listed as a Debian package.

> Here at the Reg FOSS desk, we suspect that Xubuntu's minimal install option may propel this flavor to becoming one of the most popular. One difference is visible even before you boot Xubuntu Noble for the first time. Although, as with the other flavors, the minimal installation is an option in the installation program, Xubuntu's minimal version is also available as a separate download. This is a mere 2.6GB in size, as opposed to the standard Desktop download which is about 4GB. Secondly, Xubuntu's Minimal install is far more stripped-back than any other we've seen so far.
