[00:06] DaemonFC It says that in the owner's manual. [00:07] DaemonFC Usually if OEMs recommend anything, it's Techron, but Chevron has jacked the price way up and kept taking the PEA content down. [00:07] DaemonFC So at this point it's probably not doing much. [00:10] DaemonFC https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1870982-USE-WITH-CAUTION!!!-Gumout-Regane-Complete-Fuel-System-Cleaner [00:10] TR Bot USE WITH CAUTION!!! Gumout Regane Complete : Fuel System Cleaner [00:11] DaemonFC MinceR: "I have a problem car that wouldn't pass smog and threw a bunch of misfire codes. I took the parts canon to it and nothing happened. I poured a bottle of Gumout in the gas and the car broke down and had another code for MAF sensor (which the Gumout doesn't even affect).....DAMN YOU GUMOUT! YOU DESTROYED MY PERFECT BMW!" [00:12] DaemonFC :D [00:12] MinceR lol [00:13] DaemonFC PS: I replaced the MAF sensor and the car started right back up. [00:13] DaemonFC Clearly the gas treatment affected a sensor in the air box. [00:13] DaemonFC :P [00:13] DaemonFC MinceR: They really are "special" aren't they? [00:14] DaemonFC So basically he changed out a bunch of parts at random, blames the gas treatment for an electrical sensor in an airbox that gasoline never comes anywhere near. [00:14] MinceR indeed [00:14] DaemonFC Which he didn't even diagnose first. [00:15] DaemonFC Hooking up a live scan tool to it would have indicated what the MAF sensor was reporting to the engine control module, and if it was implausible reading at idle, you would start with the MAF sensor. [00:15] DaemonFC And it's unclear whether he needed a new MAF sensor or not. [00:16] DaemonFC Sometimes you can just unplug them and spray them down with MAF cleaner (has to be MAF cleaner!) and let them dry completely and plug them back in. [00:16] DaemonFC If it's just a lot of dirt causing it to read wrong that may fix it. [00:16] DaemonFC I mean, they're not exactly giving them away for my car. For a Delco MAF sensor it's like $190. [00:17] DaemonFC For a cheap Auto Zone one that may never work right to begin with call it $70-80. [00:17] DaemonFC You're much better off getting a $8 can of MAF sensor cleaner and letting 'er rip before you go replacing it. [00:17] DaemonFC I can only imagine what one costs on a BMW. [00:18] DaemonFC It's rare that a MAF sensor is actually bad. 9/10 times it's just really dirty. [00:18] DaemonFC They're on the "clean" side of the air filter, but.... [00:19] DaemonFC Some dirt makes it past the filter. The EGR valve and engine crap makes its way back up the airbox sometimes. [00:19] DaemonFC That's why throttle plates get dirty and need spray cleaned. The MAF sensor can need cleaned too, but it's VERY delicate. You need a cleaner that's only for MAF sensors. [00:19] DaemonFC If you spray it with anything else, it'll be fucked. [00:20] DaemonFC The air filter only filters incoming air, but those fumes and the soot are still coming back up the air box. [00:20] DaemonFC Obviously it helps to use good air filters and change them often, but burning gasoline creates a lot of really nasty byproducts. [00:22] DaemonFC "Most coils fail because they develope hairline cracks that are usually visible if you remove and inspect them." [00:22] DaemonFC Yeah, BMW coils fail all the time like that because they put them in the engine itself where it'll constantly heat up and cool down a lot and vibrate them. [00:22] DaemonFC :) [00:22] DaemonFC Then it's a real bitch to get to them because they're not right there when you open the hood like they are on my car. [00:23] DaemonFC And then the part costs 3 times as much. [00:23] DaemonFC And there are twice as many. [00:23] DaemonFC So enjoy that. [00:23] DaemonFC And don't think you'll just replace one and put the engine back together. [00:24] DaemonFC A few thousand miles later, you'll lose another one and have a misfire over there and need to pay 7 more hours labor. [00:25] MinceR (cat) https://imgur.com/t/cats/O11LM0K [00:25] TR Bot the cat says hello - Album on Imgur [00:26] DaemonFC MinceR: I'm starting to get the impression from BMW owners that if you have to open the hood to fill the windshield washer fluid you may as well rebuild the engine and cooling system while you're there just to make sure. [00:26] MinceR lol [00:27] MinceR or just replace the alleged car with a shiny new model [00:27] DaemonFC Yeah, 90% of BMW sales are just a 3 year lease. [00:27] MinceR what, you can't afford to buy a new car every few months? [00:27] DaemonFC People know full well what happens after that. [00:27] DaemonFC Well, MARISOL didn't. Now she owns one and has to put $5,000 in it every year to keep it going. [00:28] DaemonFC It's all plastic in there. [00:28] DaemonFC They make them so they're only barely serviceable and only for a hell of a lot of money. [00:29] DaemonFC They're such lemons that I was reading about a guy who bought a 2019 Chevy Impala after owning a bunch of BMWs and was talking about how reliable it was. [00:29] MinceR :) [00:29] DaemonFC The Impala is a horrible car. [00:29] DaemonFC The newer ones ("New GM") are. [00:30] DaemonFC The dealerships for BMW don't negotiate on the price of a "service plan". It's all in the computer what they cost. [00:30] DaemonFC It's basically they know what the average one will do to you over the life of the plan and you're just getting it over with now while you're buying the stupid thing. [00:31] DaemonFC There's a 50% chance yours will be "worse than average" and then "you're winner". [00:31] DaemonFC :) [00:31] MinceR :) [00:32] DaemonFC So while MARISOL was in there paying $2,000 for four tires (somehow) she was boasting that they give her a can of Coke. [00:32] DaemonFC For free. [00:32] DaemonFC Can you believe it? [00:32] DaemonFC MinceR: The Chevy dealership got rid of the free cans of Coke and raised the oil changes from $59.99 to $89.99. [00:32] DaemonFC I haven't been back. [00:33] DaemonFC They got rid of the free Coke first but the oil change was still $59.99. [00:33] DaemonFC Then they started putting out $89.99 oil change "coupons". [00:33] DaemonFC WTF [00:34] DaemonFC They don't even buy AC Delco branded oil. They buy Valvoline in bulk. The dealers can buy anything that has a dexos license. [00:34] DaemonFC But I mean, they're buying the cheapest thing they can get in bulk with a dexos license. [00:34] MinceR A whole can of Coke? "Oh my god, hold me back." [00:34] DaemonFC So if Valvoline gives them a good price, that's what they're using. I mean, same as you would, but then they turn around and jack up the oil change $30. [00:35] DaemonFC MinceR: I used to go in there and down like six of them while I was waiting on my oil change. [00:35] DaemonFC Diet Dr. Pepper. What can I say? [00:35] MinceR :) [00:35] DaemonFC They were speaking my language. [00:36] DaemonFC MinceR: Now I have to go to fucking Walmart to get the oil change price I used to get at the dealership. [00:36] DaemonFC I only went to the dealership because it was the same price as Walmart. [00:37] DaemonFC Walmart is super super ridiculous about declining oil changes sometimes. [00:37] DaemonFC I've had them decline an oil change on a car because the hood latch was disconnected from the wire that opens the hood on a car I used to own. [00:37] DaemonFC So I put the wire back onto the latch and opened the hood. [00:38] DaemonFC And they said they still couldn't change the oil because the hood could come flying open and I might hold them responsible for that. [00:38] DaemonFC I worked at that Walmart at the time, So I just came back a couple days later while she wasn't there and had my hood latch connected to the wire that opened the hood, and they changed the oil. [00:39] DaemonFC And then of course my hood came flying open and I shouted "OH GOD OH GOD WHY DIDN'T I LISTEN TO THAT LADY AT WALMART I'M BURNING ALIVE NOW!!!! I DIDN'T KNOW! I DIDN'T KNOW! HERE COMES THE MEAT WAGON WHEEOOOHWHEEEOOOHWHEEEOHHHH.....OH MY GOD!" [00:40] MinceR lol [00:40] DaemonFC No, I just paid $9.90 for the oil change (it was 2004 and Obama and Biden hadn't happened yet) and I drove the car around. It was very boring. Clearly the dollar has only lost what? 40% of its value? :D [00:45] DaemonFC That's what the government says. They say COVID shots are great and everyone should get one every 90 days. That's probably right. [00:45] DaemonFC :P [00:46] DaemonFC They just need to let you file bankruptcy every year because that's what you need now that Biden's been around for a while. [00:46] MinceR normally inflation would be calculated from the prices of an entire set of wares, not just one [00:46] MinceR orbanistan does this very deceptively, of course [00:47] DaemonFC So does the US. [00:47] DaemonFC BLS goes "Yeah, FOOD WAY UP RENT WAY UP GAS WAY UP....yada yada" like everything you need to buy, double digits. [00:47] DaemonFC Then over nyaaah they go "Vacation timeshares are down." [00:48] DaemonFC "You can get a TV and watch Kesha talk about her haunted pussy on CNN. That's real cheap." [00:48] DaemonFC "Mild inflation." [00:49] DaemonFC Haunted pussy.... What is a haunted pussy? [00:49] MinceR here the state likes to calculate inflation from prices they've set and are enforcing and from the prices of products that haven't been available for years [00:49] DaemonFC Does it like suck a man in and spit out the bones? [00:49] DaemonFC "[18:49] here the state likes to calculate inflation from prices they've set and are enforcing and from the prices of products that haven't been available for years" [00:50] DaemonFC Which products are those? [00:50] DaemonFC In a market economy you can just buy whatever you have the money for, right? [00:50] DaemonFC :) [00:51] DaemonFC MinceR: They kept bullshitting me at Walmart whenever they didn't want to change my oil to the point where I bought a set of ramps and changed the oil myself. It was a relatively small car anyway. [00:51] MinceR this is not a market economy [00:51] MinceR it hasn't been a market economy for 14 years [00:51] DaemonFC It only took like 10-12 minutes. [00:51] DaemonFC I was buying oil for 77 cents a quart and a filter for $1.50. [00:51] DaemonFC So that's 4.2 quarts of oil and a filter. To make phosphoric acid for fertilizer and a few other uses, phosphate rock is dissolved in sulfuric acid. Phosphogypsum is what's left over. [03:02] DaemonFC > The commonly used production process, which dates to the 1840s, is not very efficient. For every ton of phosphoric acid produced, more than 5 tons of phosphogypsum waste is generated. [03:02] DaemonFC > Florida has been an important source since the 1800s; currently, the EPA notes, "Florida alone accounts for approximately 80 percent of the current capacity, making it the world's largest phosphate producing area." [03:02] DaemonFC > Florida's prominent role means the state also has massive waste sites called phosphogypsum stacks, or "gypstacks." Such stacks can be very large spanning up to 800 acres and about 200 feet in height. They've been linked to serious water pollution over the years, due to sinkholes and other breaches. [03:02] DaemonFC > Is phosphogypsum dangerous? [03:02] DaemonFC > "Phosphogypsum contains appreciable quantities of uranium and its decay products, such as radium-226," according to the EPA, which also notes that because the fertilizer production process concentrates waste material, "phosphogypsum is more radioactive than the original phosphate rock." [03:02] DaemonFC > "The radium is of particular concern because it decays to form radon, a cancer-causing, radioactive gas," the EPA adds. [06:27] DaemonFC Chevy has some EVs that really do start out in the $20,000s before any tax incentives you may (or may not) get or any imaginary fuel savings. [06:27] DaemonFC How much does it cost in charging a Tesla to drive an equivalent distance to a current model year average gas-powered car? [06:27] DaemonFC You don't save 100% by not buying gas. [06:28] DaemonFC You don't use fast chargers or plug the Tesla in at home and not pay for the electricity. [06:28] DaemonFC So you have to deduct this from the imaginary $6,000 saved on the gas. [06:30] DaemonFC If you take $7,000 a the dealership somehow and don't owe $7,000 in taxes for it to be counted against, you could end up in deep DEEP shit with the IRS. [06:31] DaemonFC If you only owe $400 to the IRS all year and you tell the dealership to give you an instant $7,000 rebate, you'll have to pay the IRS $6,600 at the end of the year for taking too much at the dealership. [06:31] DaemonFC Then the IRS hits you with a bunch of penalties. [06:31] DaemonFC Because you certainly didn't withhold 90% of this. [06:31] DaemonFC Then you pay interest to the IRS on it at like 6% compounded daily. [06:31] DaemonFC They don't fuck around. [06:32] DaemonFC You'll end up with a tax lien on that Tesla. [06:32] DaemonFC And people will figure this out, but it'll be after the election. [06:32] DaemonFC They'll go oh cool Biden gave me an EV real cheap and then the IRS will have a word with them about that come May of next year.
