[00:18] matey its like theyre from another planet then [00:18] DaemonFC Because at today's prices, it's too expensive to pay a mechanic twice because you skimped on the part. [00:19] DaemonFC The joke was actually on the Chevy dealer when my belt tensioner went out. Change your belts out every 100,000 miles -or- ten years. They're not that expensive. [00:24] DaemonFC And if any part of the drive pulley system starts making noise, get it in the shop fast. [00:24] DaemonFC If it's making a lot of noise, perhaps consider a tow. [00:24] DaemonFC AAA tows you for free like up to 5 times a year. [00:24] DaemonFC And my cell phone company pays my membership fee at the motor club. [00:25] DaemonFC American cars are fairly reliable if well maintained. They're not demanding, people are idiots. [00:25] DaemonFC They don't cost a fortune. Many of them are still on the road at least 20 years later, whereas maybe 1 BMW in 1000 pulls that off after a lot of expensive breakdowns. [00:26] DaemonFC If the BMW even lasts 8 years, it's the Dick Van Dyke of BMWs. [00:26] DaemonFC Whereas I've had plenty of Fords and Chevys last 20-25 years. [00:27] DaemonFC Sometimes being even the third or fourth owner. [00:27] DaemonFC It starts getting pretty hairy being owner #3. [00:27] DaemonFC But that doesn't mean the car is a lemon, just like being owner 2 doesn't mean a 1 owner car will be a good one. [00:28] DaemonFC Some owners buy the thing and trade it in two years later because they have money to do that and so it's what they do. [00:28] DaemonFC If I had billions in a bank account for whatever reason, I'd still probably drive a Buick or a Lincoln. [00:28] DaemonFC It would be top of the line. [08:11] activelow the argument FSF had in this case, is the support for malicious js/wasm and proprietary web content with epiphany/webkit/gtk/systemd/dbus/harfbuzz, which netsurf-motif has not and needs not and wants not (besides other cosmetic issues) [08:12] *darwin has quit (Quit: Leaving) [08:14] activelow and since FSF/GNU are excited about GPL copyleft, which is too _weak_, my opinion, all of it is (L)GPL: motif, netsurf, TinyCC [08:16] *Red (~Red@freenode-vq3.aj5.jaj210.IP) has joined #techrights [08:16] *Red is now known as Redfoxmoon [08:20] matey and how should GNOME/FSF argue, with epiphany browser designated as "free software", in parallel to the existence of netsurf-motif? <- they only care about freedom 3 on paper [08:20] matey theoretical freedom 3 is theoretically just as good as freedom 3 in practice [08:21] matey in fact freedom 3 in practice is terrible, so its better to only have freedom 3 in theory (if youre the fsf) [08:21] matey theyre afraid of freedom 3 [08:21] activelow btw. motif is an IEEE standard, and it is stable, 30 years proven track record [08:22] matey i mean i could make my arsehole standard if i put enough money into writing the specification [08:22] matey IEEE ARSE-T x57.0 [08:23] activelow you couldn't [08:23] matey i totally could [08:25] matey the information could be given to surgeons and people whose arsehole wasnt compliant could get brought up to spec [08:26] matey of course the upgrades would be expensive, but one of the biggest problems for proctologists is having to work in non-standard environments [08:26] matey if people were compliant proctology could be a LOT more efficient, and there could be better tools for the field [08:28] matey plus someone could finally make a smartphone accessory that lets you mount your phone using your arse when its not in use [08:28] matey which i doubt would be popular but its just one of the benefits of standardisation [08:29] matey i think comfort would be a major factor in the hole thing [08:34] matey it should probably be called ARSECII though [08:35] matey its pretty much the same thing as ASCII except 0x24 is a pound sign [08:36] matey and it maps to the first 128 characters of uknicode [08:36] matey (which of course, is the same as unicode, except 0x24 is a pound sign) [08:38] matey some people say its an arbitrary, useless, non-standard standard [08:38] matey but they alraedy did ooxml so [08:42] activelow netsurf-motif does _not_ pose a threat to proprietary interests of those who endorsed chromium/epiphany/webkit/gnome/gtk etc... [08:44] activelow and it is difficult to attack the freedom of netsurf-motif, because, netsurf for example, insists on portability onto targets which cannot be attacked easily, "embrace, extend, extinguish" [08:45] activelow GNU/FSF/IBM etc. simply cannot bloat software designated to run on some humble ARM or Amiga with 16MiB RAM [08:46] activelow so, netsurf, motif remain what they are, "free software" [08:47] activelow and chances are, those will compile with TinyCC, without gcc or llvm required anymore [08:48] activelow situation with TeX/ghostscript etc is slightly different, meaning those are better options for scientific authoring and publication anyway [08:49] activelow except for the fact, there isn't alot of maintenance and testing anymore with the related workflow; except BaphometOS [08:53] *u-amarsh04 (~amarsh04@v6xmmrhxmbafc.irc) has joined #techrights [08:59] IPFS IPFS downstream 60 minutes average 32.76 k/sec., IPFS upstream 41.68 average k/sec., average swarm size 283.00 ● Apr 21 [09:01] *u-amarsh04 has quit (Quit: Konversation terminated!)
