00:03 TR News; I know of many people who quit Twitter over Musk (maybe millions such people exist) and I know of nobody who went like, "OH! RICH fraudster buys it, I have to join and create an account RIGHT NOW!" I think MusKSA (his partners in this include KSA) just want to kill Twitter and profit in the process (shares manipulated) while amassing free press coverage, just like Microsoft and Icahn did Yahoo!

03:19 matey; a bit of context here
03:20 matey; im not shy to call someone a krout (i dont know many disgusting germans personally, in fact i probably know some decent germans i just dont know theyre german)
03:20 MinceR; i doubt there's much value in judging people by nationality when humans in general tend to suck, and as such, all nationalities tend to suck anyway
03:20 MinceR; the same applies to races, etc.
03:20 matey; thats actually my point
03:20 matey; but either way i agree
03:21 matey; my family was lucky enough to escape germany just before the nazis took over
03:21 matey; lots of germans in my history
03:21 matey; some of them at least werent dicks
03:22 matey; when a german posing as a brit (cheering manchester united doesnt count as naturalisation) decides to just between a quarter and a half BILLION people on word of his sister
03:22 matey; i have to point out that hes making the same fucking argument daemonfc constantly makes
03:22 matey; dfc whinges on and on about blacks
03:22 matey; then he goes on about how hanging them will solve the problem
03:22 matey; i mean, chicago isnt THAT FAR south
03:22 matey; but whatever
03:22 matey; the point is
03:23 MinceR; my family wasn't smart enough to leave the russian empire in 1956
03:23 matey; my condolances
03:23 matey; first roy calls anything (bad OR good) about a country nationalism
03:23 matey; then he dogs the usa (constantly) over things britain is equally
03:23 matey; and germany MORESO
03:23 matey; but thats not the point--
03:24 matey; the point is, the reason usa sucks like he says (WHEN it does at least, which is to say sometimes, someplaces, sometimes)
03:24 matey; its EXACTLY the same reason chicago fucking sucks
03:24 matey; POLITICAL corruption and ECONOMIC collapse
03:24 matey; so when he says no wonder his sister wants to leave
03:24 matey; because people arent NICE?
03:24 MinceR; i may have missed part of this debate
03:24 matey; its not a debate at all
03:24 matey; its just a bunch of wank im complaining about
03:25 matey; but the thing is, the argument made about americans, is THE SAME ARGUMENT dfc makes about blacks
03:25 matey; and an equally retarded argument
03:25 matey; because anything that SUCKS does so for the SAME reasons
03:25 matey; but hey, if you think germany is better
03:25 matey; great
03:25 MinceR; i wish i could find a country that is Just Better
03:25 matey; if you think provinces ANYWHERE are full of only NICE cultured internatinalists lol
03:25 MinceR; i've been searching
03:26 MinceR; and in the end, i couldn't find any
03:26 matey; <MinceR> i've been searching <- ive literally been looking since 2003 or so
03:26 matey; <MinceR> and in the end, i couldn't find an <- what i would do is
03:26 MinceR; the best i can hope for is a better salary, and being _somewhat_ less oppressed
03:26 matey; i bought an old world map for like $2
03:26 matey; and when any country (starting with my own) was too bullshit
03:26 matey; id colour it in
03:27 matey; "this country-- no, too insane"
03:27 matey; id read, learn, find a news story
03:27 matey; NOPE! off the list
03:27 matey; you can guess what happened
03:27 MinceR; yeah
03:27 matey; i coloured in the entire earth
03:27 MinceR; even the oceans?
03:27 matey; there ARE countries i like of course
03:27 matey; oh i started with the oceans. im so tired of pirates i think ill join the ninja party.
03:28 matey; blame julia reda
03:28 matey; who i used to like
03:28 MinceR; lol
03:28 matey; and yes i already knew she was german
03:29 matey; anyway, the usa is falling apart
03:29 matey; not as fast as some places
03:29 matey; think chicago but-- different scale
03:29 matey; im quite sure both have pockets of... less crazy
03:29 matey; i mean somewhere (well hidden)
03:30 matey; <MinceR> i doubt there's much value in judging people by nationality when humans in general tend to suck, and as such, all nationalities tend to suck anyway <- this is my real stance
03:30 matey; i wont lie though, i DO actually dislike germans disproportionately
03:30 matey; im working on it
03:30 matey; but for one to diss the usa is hilarious
03:30 matey; dude, pick up a book
03:31 MinceR; sadly, one of the parties running the USA has decided they want the country destroyed
03:31 matey; only one? cmon
03:31 matey; all the parties want to eat the world and shit out money into their own pockets
03:31 MinceR; seemed to me the other settled for "more of the same"
03:31 matey; its what the parties exist for
03:32 MinceR; while the one i'm talking about appointed supreme court judges to take the republic apart
03:32 matey; its a one-party system
03:32 matey; it has different ad agencies for different demographics
03:32 MinceR; maybe in causes the megacorporations do care about, yes
03:32 matey; yeah i mena
03:32 matey; in some arenas
03:32 matey; youre not wrong
03:32 matey; like the bankers dont really care whether anyone has abortions or not
03:32 MinceR; maybe the megacorporations are neutral on whether they want to supplant the state with themselves
03:33 matey; thats just a convenient lever
03:33 matey; i mean the state serves the corporations
03:33 matey; the only way to stop that is to get rid of the state
03:33 matey; we agree on that, if we disagree its only on how to get rid of it
03:34 matey; the best possible future for humanity is a stateless one
03:39 matey; i saw a refrigerator magnet today, in some former soviet province
03:39 matey; it had a picture of putin and said "crimea is ours"
03:40 matey; among the "correspondants" (theyre amused when they get called this in russian) is an anti-putlin russian and a brit who loves ukraine
03:40 matey; so hes being polite to the babushka who owns the magnet and reading it dispassionately to the viewers
03:41 matey; "crimea is ours (sorry ukraine)" he says
03:41 matey; he met some old woman who is the equivalent of that uncle you can never invite to a big family dinner
03:41 matey; /me is probably that uncle
03:42 matey; "an anti-putlin russian" <- the same one who does a video on comparing these "polls" the government takes to scratch the surface of the bs that russians really favour this "operation"
03:43 matey; but obviously some people really are in favour, its a matter of how many (and also how many of them are old people who have nothing to do but knit and watch the russian media)
03:45 matey; i actually found the magnet hilarious, in a fucking tragic way
03:45 matey; like kenneth mars in the producers
03:46 matey; you can separate the people from their idiotic governments
03:46 matey; you have to
03:47 matey; the government does 20 rotten things a day, and then it tells the people "this is a democracy!"
03:47 MinceR; some people are inseparable from the government
03:47 matey; "so, which do you want? can we use our kids for firewood, or will you let us go shoot about of foreign people?"
03:47 matey; some people are inseparable from the government <- i mean they would be separable if they killed themselves
03:47 MinceR; yeah
03:47 matey; fingers crossed
03:48 matey; s/about/a bunch/
03:49 matey; people are divided by one or two divisive issues each time they do an election
03:49 matey; usually some lose-lose situation
03:49 matey; but then between polls everyone gets a bunch of smaller bullshit issues to remind them why theyre loyal to their own party
03:49 matey; its a good scam
03:49 matey; democracy is alright when it works. its usually broken of course
03:50 matey; i think its a good idea, like gandhi said about western civilisation
03:50 matey; debian seemed to have just the right amount of democracy
03:51 matey; enough that they could get things done, but not so much that you could use to break debian altogether
03:51 matey; they got a LITTLE bit more, and
03:51 matey; ultimately the cttc stepped in an showed everybody what democracy looks like-- a bunch of guys in suits (and one hawaiian shirt) saying how its going to be
03:52 matey; the rest (from the 1990s onward) as they say, was history
03:52 matey; debian treated democracy like the weighted companion cube
03:53 matey; democracy is THE ONLY THING THAT WORKS for debian, democracy is YOUR ONLY FRIEND
03:53 matey; then they had to sacrifice it
03:53 matey; this was a triumph!
03:54 matey; im making a note here, huge success
03:54 MinceR; what gandhi said about western civilization is also true about eastern civilization
03:54 matey; i know
03:54 MinceR; and human civilization in general
03:54 matey; actually i think civilisation is overrated
03:54 matey; it depends how you define civilisation
03:55 matey; the problem is that civilisation defines itself as "everything good that has happened since humans were mostly about chucking spears at mammoths"
03:55 MinceR; i define it as a state of a society in which cooperation is the rule, not the exception
03:55 matey; i dont see a lot of cooperation
03:55 matey; it exists
03:55 MinceR; neither do i
03:55 MinceR; humans are apparently unfit for civilization
03:55 matey; maybe the other way around
03:55 matey; my definition of civilisation is more narrow though
03:55 MinceR; making everything shit for each other for no reason, now that's something humans really excel at
03:55 matey; i dont define it in all good or all bad terms
03:56 matey; rather it was a step forward from living in caves (which we probably never did anyway)
03:56 matey; the thing is, civilisation probably wasnt the best idea we ever had
03:56 matey; it was maybe the best idea we had at the time
03:56 matey; and thats giving it a lot of credit
03:57 matey; but as long as people think its a synonym for anything advanced, you know, theyre not going to let go of it
03:57 matey; "well i dont want to live in a tree"
03:57 matey; im not exactly bear grylls myself
03:58 matey; i think of civilisation as a bunch of dudes on ships, getting tired of the water and landing somewhere they dont speak the language
03:58 matey; then finding a way to explain "we are better than you, do it our way"
03:59 matey; then they kill most of them

04:05 matey; it used to be, people had to cooperate or they would freeze or starve or get flattened
04:06 MinceR; i made a mistake in my definition
04:06 matey; but then civilisation came along and said "ok, you all work for me now-- i need you to go pick a few trillion grams of tea for me"
04:06 MinceR; i amend it to "a state of a society in which voluntary cooperation is the rule, not the exception"
04:07 matey; so people would basically be drafted by whatever company came in, and technically they were working together because they all had a similar level of choice in the matter
04:07 matey; and they worked for the same company
04:07 matey; thats a good amendment
04:07 matey; the old version is still good for something
04:07 matey; then of course, the company would use up the resources
04:08 matey; then it would find more tea (or minerals, or trees, or illiterate starving people) and move on
04:08 matey; leaving everyone to fend for themselves without the corporation to "help"

10:59 schestowitz-TR; he does shill some products on his channel
10:59 schestowitz-TR; as an "influencr"
10:59 matey; <schestowitz-TR> matey pretty much wore DT off when he said something "good" about Microsoft
10:59 psydruid; it happens sooner or later anyway
10:59 schestowitz-TR; but usually hardware
10:59 matey; yes, i recall you were having a chat about it in another channel
10:59 matey; and then told everyone id lost my shit over it, when i all i did was answer your question
10:59 schestowitz-TR; btw, an hour ago I watched the former "linux gamer"
10:59 matey; all id said was "bye, dt" and then you made a meme out of it
10:59 schestowitz-TR; he did a video where he just reads what Torvalds said on vaccine
11:00 matey; "bye, cc"
11:00 schestowitz-TR; read the whole email
11:00 matey; and so on
11:00 schestowitz-TR; AND...
11:00 bnchs; sponsor?
11:00 schestowitz-TR; censored the word "vaccine" amond others
11:00 schestowitz-TR; because "youtube"
11:00 schestowitz-TR; he didn't want to get flagged
11:00 matey; OR as you put it: "matey pretty much wore DT off when he said something "good" about Microsoft"
11:00 schestowitz-TR; so he basically treatede even the work "mRNA" like it was ;"nigger"
11:00 schestowitz-TR; would not SHOW it
11:00 schestowitz-TR; would not READ it
11:00 bnchs; youtube is literally censorship at this point
11:00 bnchs; you can't say "rape"
11:00 schestowitz-TR; for fear of Google censoring/banning/demonetisation
11:00 bnchs; you can't say "porn"
11:01 schestowitz-TR; YoiuTube is unfit for purpose
11:01 bnchs; you can't even fucking swear
11:01 schestowitz-TR; I can find the link/URL
11:01 schestowitz-TR; it's outright ridiculous
11:01 schestowitz-TR; Linus email with like 30 words removed
11:01 schestowitz-TR; and he would not read that out
11:01 schestowitz-TR; bleeps and things, for words like "vaccine"
11:02 schestowitz-TR; bnchs: yes, it was not always like that
11:02 schestowitz-TR; you cannot even insault religions
11:02 bnchs; ofc it wasn't like that
11:02 schestowitz-TR; because that "offends" some people
11:02 bnchs; back in the old days of youtube, you could get away with saying "faggot"
11:02 bnchs; or "fag"
11:03 schestowitz-TR; atm I uploaded a lennart video
11:03 schestowitz-TR; faggot is food
11:03 schestowitz-TR; fag means cig here
11:03 schestowitz-TR; slang
11:03 schestowitz-TR; sometimes words change in meaning over time
11:03 schestowitz-TR; so you can get banned for very old videos
11:03 schestowitz-TR; made when words meant something else
11:04 schestowitz-TR; someone who made a video on how to use torrents got sanctioned 10 years later
11:04 schestowitz-TR; or for talking about 3-d printing
11:04 bnchs; do you guys remember youtube poops?
11:04 matey; when he said something "good" about Microsoft" <- what hed said is that maybe microsoft was maybe starting to change his mind about them
11:05 matey; and having seen literally decades of that sort of thing, i called it for what it (most likely) was
11:05 schestowitz-TR; I saw that
11:05 schestowitz-TR; it's a "yuck" moment
11:05 schestowitz-TR; tbh, since then I saw nothing of this kind again
11:06 schestowitz-TR; so the "first strike" likely evaporated by now
11:06 schestowitz-TR; he did other iffy things
11:07 matey; <Techrights-sec> By the way, what about DT? He was off to a good start with the first few episozed but is ap pearing like he's manipulated or o=therwise falling for the M$ trap. (this was from dec 12 2020)
11:08 bnchs; so distrotube is a shill now
11:08 matey; he has been for a while
11:08 matey; techrights-sec seemed concerned at least
11:08 matey; but i wasnt allowed to have the same concern

11:09 matey; i wasnt angry at distrotube
11:09 matey; why would i be? its just that shills are a waste of my time
11:09 matey; i still dont know why techrights-sec can have that opinion, but if i have the same opinion its SOMETHING ELSE thats less legitimate
11:10 matey; i mean ive had more than a year to think about that
11:10 matey; and the best i can conclude is that it was simply bullshit.
11:10 matey; the funny thing is, everything i said about him was logged
11:11 matey; but somehow that got "misremembered" as "rage directed at everyone at the same time | schestowitz__ including distrotube, derek taylor"
11:11 matey; i dont think it was an honest mistake
11:12 matey; after all, there had been another "misunderstanding" months prior in august
11:12 matey; but when the history was rewritten, it started in december
11:12 matey; i dont know, some people just suck with details.
11:13 matey; especially when theyre making shit up
11:13 matey; actually thats pretty a common way to tell someones lying
11:13 matey; they keep fudging details, like way more than average
11:13 matey; and theyre completely inconsistent
11:14 matey; because even though you can be foggy on something that actually happened
11:14 matey; remembering something that never happened is less natural-- and even "good" liars are less prone to getting the details right
11:14 matey; because what "good" liars are really best at, is plain and simple denial
11:15 matey; the funny thing about that is, most people feel some sort of guilt about denial, and it shows
11:15 matey; but some people feel no guilt, because theyre sociopathic.
11:15 matey; so they can REALLY stab people in the back, betray them, lie about it, never feel guilt about anything.
11:15 matey; *cough* HYPOTHETICALLY speaking, of course.

21:42 DaemonFC; Autozone has a loan a tool program where you just put up a deposit and return the tools when you're done.
21:42 DaemonFC; So I was able to purge the system of moisture and then refill it with R-134a.

21:47 DaemonFC; The cabin air filter. Amazon sells them for like $11, so there's really no harm in replacing that. That improved things for a while, but the filter was so crapped up that I only thought I fixed the air conditioner because it increased the amount of air it was blowing on me and it worked better than it did before.
21:48 DaemonFC; If the system runs out of refrigerant, you really do need to get it fixed soon.
21:49 DaemonFC; It won't cause damage to drive the car around for a little while, but if you don't recharge it, what will happen is that seals and gaskets in the system will dry out because the refrigerant has oil and conditioners in it that are meant to keep the seals healthy.
21:49 DaemonFC; And so if the system is bone dry and you go a year or two without fixing it, it may never hold a charge again.
21:49 DaemonFC; And then you're talking new AC compressor, which is like $1,200 parts and labor if you go to a mechanic.
21:50 DaemonFC; So a simple $40 repair you can do in the parking lot at Autozone turns into a $1,200 nightmare, and if the car is really old, you probably don't want to start messing with something like that.
21:51 DaemonFC; Mom paid me back to do that and change the fuse box out.
21:51 DaemonFC; I took it to my mechanic for the fuse box though.
21:52 DaemonFC; I'm giving her the car back later in the week when I get the Buick squared away and I didn't want to hand it back with no air conditioner.

21:53 DaemonFC; If the portable air pump you have hooked up to the high port is still sucking air and doesn't ever stop, then it means you have a leaky compressor.
21:54 DaemonFC; If the thing is already crap anyway, you might as well just put some R-134a with stop leak in the system, but don't count on the repair lasting more than a few years.
21:54 DaemonFC; But it was holding a vacuum.
21:55 DaemonFC; Even with a leak it's important to get all the moisture you can evacuated first, because that gives the stop leak more of a chance to be a permanent repair.
21:55 DaemonFC; Plus, the stuff likes to mix with humidity inside the compressor and gum the compressor up and go ahead and destroy it.
21:56 DaemonFC; schestowitz, Cars....they might be cheap to buy, but they won't be cheap to keep.
21:57 DaemonFC; Some lady came in while I was sitting there and complained she just bought one and "You can't find anything under $10,000 that isn't utter garbage.".
21:57 TR News; Verbal waffle today about PRICE HIKES in DigitalOcean (impacting some clients of ours): "On July 1, 2022, customers using Droplets, Snapshots, Load Balancers, Floating IPs, and Custom Images will experience a change in prices. Well continue to offer affordable inbound data transfer and industry-leading bandwidth pricing which will remain unchanged." Blah blah blah.. PRICES UP!
21:57 DaemonFC; Which is "kind of" true. It depends on where you go and what you buy and if you're willing to talk them down and say "Hey, this isn't in perfect shape. I'm going to have to do this this, and that to it.".
21:58 TR News; Clown computing = you are NOT in control. You are CONTROLLED. Cannot control price, data, access etc. That risk should be factored in as a financial COST, albeit hidden or temporarily veiled.
21:59 DaemonFC; If you buy them in imperfect condition, you can save money because people hate rust and stuff, but if it's not totally out of control yet, you might be able to go to a body shop and have them grind and spray and make it look good again. Cheaper than buying one that looks like that.
22:00 DaemonFC; Like, wheel well rust can shave off $5,000-7,000 off the car because it just looks ugly, but you may be able to take it to a shop and pay them $1,000-$1,500 to remove, fill, and spray.
22:01 DaemonFC; But the key is to know if it's so severe that it'll either just come right back or be impractical to fix.
22:02 DaemonFC; And of course, structural rust can look terrible and the car will be okay to drive for a while. Like, I don't even want to know what my rockers look like on the Impala.
22:02 DaemonFC; Probably horrible. I know there's rust in there because it's stained the trim.
22:06 DaemonFC; schestowitz, That woman my mom works with that bought the 2011 Mustang (fifth owner), just got it back. First they replaced the timing chain (which means it almost certainly did severe damage to the upper part of the engine since the Modular V8 is an interference engine)....
22:06 DaemonFC; I said, "Most likely it will just break down on her as soon as they deliver the car." to my mom.
22:06 DaemonFC; Well, she made it five miles and the engine cut out.
22:07 DaemonFC; So she returned it and said that she wanted them to fix it, they offered her a different car on their lot, and she told them no.
22:07 DaemonFC; So they told her they'd fix the engine.
22:08 DaemonFC; She got it back again and was driving down the road and the engine burned up.
22:08 DaemonFC; So they towed it back and told her they'll replace the engine this time.
22:08 DaemonFC; She's in on this thing for over $12,000 and has driven it less than 10 miles. It's broken down and had to be towed back twice, and now they say they'll swap out the engine.
22:08 DaemonFC; Want to bet me anything that it'll work right the third time she gets it?
22:17 DaemonFC; The correct replacement engine with comparable mileage would be $5,500 to $6,000.
22:17 DaemonFC; So they're either going to jury rig the one that's in there again or try to replace it with the wrong engine and then it won't shift right and it'll break down again.
