01:12 schestowitz; @Doc Edward Morbius very easy to collect it, we can require anual subscription instead of monthly. Thats 18 eur per year. Now, if somebody does not pay, then he will have access only to the page of downloading his data and/or destroying the account. Hence the user can download the data and move away to other pod but he wont be allowed to continue posting on this pod unless he pays.

01:12 schestowitz; Yall need to realize that collecting money is not enough. Running a pod also costs time (and nerves); not just for the technical aspects of keeping it up, but also in dealing with users, reacting to feedback and reports, legally assess said reports, etc. The bigger the pod, the more work you need to put into it.

01:12 schestowitz; Its totally fine and understandable if Lukas doesnt want to provide this any longer. He didnt say hes looking for donations. He said he doesnt want to run this pod anymore, hed just transfer it to someone else if they want to take it on.

11:06 Techrights-sec; yes I recall, twitter is not in tech to help anyone or make tech better, rather

11:06 Techrights-sec; the opposite. Strife drives engagement / additctive e=behavior which in turn

11:06 Techrights-sec; farms more money and, worse, more influence.

11:06 schestowitz-TR2; pricisely

11:06 schestowitz-TR2; one point of merit:

11:06 schestowitz-TR2; 1. we did not know this before

11:06 schestowitz-TR2; 2. it was not this bad before

11:28 Techrights-sec; right, media is beholden to M$ directly and indrectly, and many other tightly

11:28 Techrights-sec; related problems. However APRIL and MuyLinux are not mainstream media.

11:28 schestowitz-TR2; goes without saying, we have the github exclusives

11:28 schestowitz-TR2; in the same way nytimes and bezos post (pre-bezos) gaslit manning

11:28 Techrights-sec; yes and they all turned down snowden, too, and have been active in attacks agains

11:30 schestowitz-TR2; therer are sayinga long the lines of

11:30 schestowitz-TR2; markets opening up when you try to asuppress something

11:30 schestowitz-TR2; we already saw that by refusing to handlke complaints internally

11:30 schestowitz-TR2; NSA or booz allen basically left Snowden with no other (motal) choice

11:30 schestowitz-TR2; similarly, censoring people in irc etc. can backfire

11:30 schestowitz-TR2; they will just speak out against you somewhere else

11:33 Techrights-sec; snowden studied earlier attempts at calling out illegal government activities

11:33 Techrights-sec; he also sent out feelers to be sure. His management left him no other options

12:05 schestowitz-TR2; I think from a technical POV it'a a pile of shit

12:05 schestowitz-TR2; develkoped by nyoung sudents with RoR

12:05 schestowitz-TR2; because it was fast and easy

12:05 schestowitz-TR2; I want to think gemini will grow fast enough

12:05 schestowitz-TR2; and then the www compionent becomes less important

12:05 schestowitz-TR2; and can be turned into mere files

12:05 schestowitz-TR2; then distributed as files

12:05 schestowitz-TR2; no master/flave db setup

12:09 Techrights-sec; yep

12:09 Techrights-sec; yes, static files make distribution and decentralization practical.

12:09 Techrights-sec; Gemini pages are a little more standalone than WWW, so the writing style

12:09 Techrights-sec; needs minor adjustments to include just a slight amount more information

12:09 Techrights-sec; for context each time. Especially as new people arrive.

12:09 Techrights-sec; There are several ways possible but the dealbreaker is that Gemini cannot

12:09 Techrights-sec; serve video files, they are too big.

12:09 schestowitz-TR2; speaking of which, do you know how the gemini side can extract full video

12:09 schestowitz-TR2; title rather than file name? the issue is that iut gets that from the server

12:09 schestowitz-TR2; but I can alter the server side (http) to include something from exif

12:09 schestowitz-TR2; btw, gemini is now distributed outwards, file by file, partition by partition

12:09 schestowitz-TR2; to a USB kley

12:09 schestowitz-TR2; I can make another one for you and mail it to you

12:09 schestowitz-TR2; but I suspect customs don't like USB keys in parcels

12:16 Techrights-sec; congratulations

12:17 schestowitz-TR2; look at it like this:

12:17 schestowitz-TR2; we develop some toolsets

12:17 schestowitz-TR2; I know some mpeople picked bits of these

12:17 schestowitz-TR2; and hopefully cnn et al can follow

12:17 schestowitz-TR2; or very minimal markupo

12:17 schestowitz-TR2; they could use the extra audience

12:18 Techrights-sec; NPR already has a text site but they are severly compromised financially to bill

12:18 schestowitz-TR2; that is a CONTWNT problem

12:18 schestowitz-TR2; more so than a TECHJNICAL problem

12:20 Techrights-sec; excellent

12:21 schestowitz-TR2; I can change things ti present extra info oin videois

12:21 schestowitz-TR2; gemini can then fetch these too

12:23 Techrights-sec; nothing converts but there is exiftool which can read or edit EXIF metadata

12:23 Techrights-sec; in a target file. There are also modules for Perl and presumably Python.

12:23 Techrights-sec; The Gemini protocol doesn't handle large files due to several bugs. I'm not sure

12:26 Techrights-sec; Yes, his client does several protocols.

12:26 Techrights-sec; Packaging of the clients is the biggest obstacle which I see to adoptions

12:26 Techrights-sec; currently.

12:27 schestowitz-TR2; imho, https is too compromised to do video

12:27 schestowitz-TR2; and gemini clients should send video daata to actual media players
