●● Improvements in the Techrights Gemini Capsule

Posted in Site News at 8:48 am by Dr. Roy Schestowitz

Summary: Further improvements are being made to our Gemini capsule, which contains all the latest stories sans the graphics; it now has a total of 35,820 pages

YESTERDAY we suffered a downtime (due to networking issues; damage to fibre), but our Gemini capsule remained accessible. The same was true for IPFS (our local node of it processes about 3GB of traffic per day). In order to be robust or resistant to downtimes we try to put the eggs in several baskets, including protocols. The same is true for IRC networks.

In case we have technical issues such as network glitches, it will still be possible to access the site over gemini:// (we keep improving the experience there, given deliberate limitations that reduce distraction, clutter, and bloat). The above shows Techrights in Lagrange. The other day we enhanced the capsule's security. In terms or privacy, on average it is better than the World Wide Web. It also discourages centralisation of “trust”.

Shown below is a World Wide Web gateway (third party) for our capsule, which is located at gemini://gemini.techrights.org (you’ll need a Gemini client to access that address and get a better experience). █
