This week came in with a bang

Actually, it was that crackling sound when wood is being torn apart. It was about 8 am and as the kids were letting the dogs back inside the house I could see the leaves of the trees in the back yard shaking violently and then stopping. We had a tornado warning the night before but barely any wind. But it had been the final straw for the massive white oak. Now we had a tree limb that weighed a ton resting 20 feet in the air on top of another tree just waiting to fall. By the time I got outside to check things out we had three neighbors all rushing over as they said the horrible crackling could be heard from down the street. The sound that anyone who lives in the woods knows means danger.

Called a tree service and they quoted a thousand to get the limb down to the ground and ten to twenty grand to take down the rest of the 60 foot tree still standing. With a gaping 10 foot hole in the side I doubt it will make it through the fall, let alone into next spring. We will see what happens. Its leaning away from the house down into our creek. Just sad to see such a huge, rare tree fall apart and loosing the shade it provided.

Work has been going well. The typical kinks needed to be ironed out but over all the on boarding process has been pretty smooth. The process there is sound, great detail is put into all aspects of development and the estimates of work are quite generous. It is a new team after all so the pace will eventually increase. But so far nothing is too outrageous.

Finally on Thursday at 3:20pm the limb fell to the ground.
