End of the first day of the last week

Its now the end of the first day of the last week at my current job. Started this job at the beginning of the pandemic, after my last place of employ went under. Thought the job would be a good match, that my extensive background in the field would be useful. I thought that it would become apparent that my 18 years of development, with 12 developing exactly their product would have meant that my expertise would help. But after two years it became obvious that none of that really mattered. Everything there was about politics.

So now I'm leaving and starting a new career in a different field. Still a software developer but going back to web services for a single entity. I did the SaaS thing for a few years before it went under. Did the engineer with many hats thing before that. Will be nice to start a new role in a very narrow space with a very distinct purpose.

I'm hoping the new role will be slower paced. With two young kids, one starting school in a few weeks, I've enjoyed the new work from home world we live in. But the chaos and lack of vision and process at my current job just doesn't fit the world from home dynamic.

So here's to the end of the first day of my last week.
