Fish Training

When I in september moved the fish from the pond to the indoor tank I cought them using fish net and a bucket. That seemed to be too stressfull for them. Especially for Apelsin who got a little shy after the move. So I will try another approuch to transport them back to the pond in the spring 2022.

Hopefully I can use the same technic when moving them back inside next autumn.

I need to train them!

This is the plan:

Goal

All 4 fish will volutary svim into a bucket which is tilted and partly submeged in the water tank. I can tilt the bucket in upright position, put on a lid and carry them all to the pond. Stress free!

Method

My approuch is teaching them with help of "Positive Reinforcment". I will try to "shape" their behavour by using reward.

Food (reward) will be given when they are closer to my goal then they were the previous time they was rewarded. I will at first work with the fish colsest to the bucket. And hope for the others to follow. Maybe the first into the bucket have to wait for the next/last one, so patience needs to be learned.

Steps

1. Teaching them to swim into the bucket. The bucket is tilted 45 degrees whereas aproxamently half the rim is above the water surface.

2. Gradually delay the reward when they're in the bucket. Patince.

3. Slightly tilt back the bucket 'till they're ok with that.

4. Put on a lid.

Maybe I will try to familierize them to the lid before using it together with the bucket.

I don't know how long time this will take. Maybe 2 weeks? We'll see.
