Update for Thanksgiving week 2022

In no particular order, my life recently has involved:

The transmission on my car failing and having to be replaced, while I was in the middle of a Lyft ride 30 miles from home.

Lots of cooking experiments! Links below.

Including digging out my bread maker and making a few failed loaves because I forgot how the damn thing worked, lol.

My doctor’s office insisting I need a checkup every three months to continue being prescribed the thyroid meds I’ve been taking for ten years and will continue to take every single day for the rest of my life. “We do it this way because this is the way we do it” — fuck you!

So anyway. Recipe links.

Vegan gluten-free pumpkin pie

Except I don’t care about the gluten-free part so I just used regular flour.

Deviled potatoes

Okay, I haven’t made these YET, but I’m eager!

Carrot Dogs

I wasn’t expecting much, but they’re pretty good! A little too much vinegar, I think I’ll cut back next time.

Cinnamon Raisin Bread

It didn’t seem to rise all the way, but I used brown sugar instead of white because, I mean, it’s cinnamon raisin bread so of course I did. IDK if that made a difference. Still tastes good, and it at least rose SOME. Not like certain other failed attempts earlier this week.

It’s Thanksgiving as of less than two hours after I upload this. On the one hand, I do not care. It’s an arbitrary date chosen to celebrate a false mythology of the imperialist country I happened to be born into. On the other hand, my family does care, and I like when my family is happy, and I like sitting around the dinner table with them. And on the OTHER other hand, I fucking hate that a holiday that is, ostensibly, about being thankful for what you have is increasingly actually about buying shit, so I’m staying the hell home tomorrow and Friday. Do some laundry. Cook some shit with the food I already have in the house.

Once I feel less bad about going back to the grocery store, I might pick up some whole wheat bread and try a sourdough starter. Dunno. Seems like a good thing to do, and I’m great at jumping on bandwagons super late.

Shopping list for Future November:

Tofurkey slices

Carrots

Whole wheat bread

Water chestnuts

Bread maker yeast

Avocados

Bananas
