My hobby computing life has been made so much more pleasant by lftp.
Most of these projects involve writing markup or code that is compiled and then shipped to a server somewhere.
My workflow for setting this up is usually:
Assume lftp will make this easy
Google what I want to do
Find a very clear post somewhere of someone who has done this
Test it
Discover it does exactly what I want
Read the docs and find out a new, useful lftp feature I never knew about
I once used Unison for this, but lftp is just ergonomically easier to use for most servers I maintain (or for managed servers that I rent from some 3rd party.)
Thanks to whoever invented lftp, and to all the folks who have worked on it since. It's delightful, and I love it.
