Video games will improve your life. Although many parents think video games are bad, they have benefits. The video game industry has been exploding in recent years. With all the new games some parents have taken a stance against video games. They say things like, Video games can't get you anywhere in life, and, You shouldn't stare at a screen for so long. While some of that may be true, most of it isn't. Video games have many benefits that are worth your time.


First, video games can improve your motor skills. Fast paced action games, such as first person shooters are known to improve your motor skills the most. A study done by the University of Toronto demonstrated that gamers as compared to non-gamers had better sensorimotor skills. This means that video games can possibly improve your performance with tasks that require hand-eye coordination. Playing fast paced action games will improve your sensorimotor skills.

Second, gaming can be a career path. You may have heard people say things like playing video games is a waste of time. Actually there are jobs in which you can play video games. One type of job is a Quality Tester. A Quality Tester insures that there are no bugs in a game level by playing it over and over. They make an average of $49,000 per year. Another job is Professional Gaming. In Professional Gaming you go to competitions. You are only paid if you win. The last job is video game streaming. In video game streaming you either record yourself playing a video game or broadcast it live onto a video sharing website. One famous video game streaming youtuber makes $400,000 per month with their large audience.


Finally, video games can be a good way to socialize. A common misconception is that video games are all played alone. You can actually be very social playing video games that have microphone functionality or a way to communicate. Other games can be played with a friend locally. Being social is very important and playing video games with friends is a great way to socialize especially during the Covid-19 Pandemic.


Video games have benefits that are well worth your time. They can improve your motor skills, give you a job, and help you socialize. Video games besides only being fun, are useful. The next time your parent tells you to do something productive, you can play a video game!
