Not news to mature, emotionally and intellectually capable adults, but apparently it does bear repeating for others.

Relationships, whether personal or business, thrive in a healthy give-and-take atmosphere with all parties participating in well-reasoned compromises of varying degrees for the benefit of all parties involved. And, this works well when it's adequately balanced depending on the type of environment. Obviously some scenarios call for a little more give or take, but generally speaking it's agreeable to all.

This doesn't work when somebody decides to keep score. Once that happens, everybody is forced to keep score to try to maintain the proper balance, but it's doomed to fail. At some point the "score" will become too far out of balance in somebody's perception, real or otherwise, and that symbiotic relationship falls apart.
