Colorful Ice Raven

2021-01-30

I realize I'm late to the party, but I just never had a need for it previously.

I've been using Orgzly to manage todo's/tasks on my Android devices. The source file can be kept on Dropbox, which is fine until you want to keep more than 3 devices in sync. Dropbox charges somewhere around $10.00/month for unlimited devices. While $10.00 might not sound like much to you, the information I'm syncing is convenient but not critical and I'm not paying $120.00/year... every year. In just 5 years time it will have cost me $600.00 and I've already been using it more than 5 years. That's just ridiculous.

I opened a Box account that doesn't (yet) seem to have the same restrictions. The problem is that Orgzly does not sync with Box but I still use it to store other files. Unfortunately Box does not have a Linux native client, so when I'm on the Linux PC I have to upload files via their website but they have Android and Windows clients so that works well.

So, this is where WebDAV comes in to save the day. While it's not an automatic sync, I simply have to remember to sync the program before I start making changes to the Android app. An additional plus to using WebDAV is being able to "mount"/create a shortcut for the WebDAV directory and access the files as if they were local. And my server host made it very simple to activate/set-up the service. Sweet!
