Silent growth

Every now and then I check in on the known hosts list at GUS[1]. The initial mad rush after appearing in Hacker News is well and truly over, but new servers are still popping up. What I find interesting is that nobody is announcing these new servers on the mailing list, and nobody is emailing me to ask me to add their server to the known host list at gemini.circumlunar.space (which I'm not updating anymore, now that it's hit 50 hosts, but the list doesn't announce that yet). This is fine, naturally neither of those things are mandatory. But I'm surprised and excited that Geminispace is undergoing silent growth! The fact that people must be learning about Gemini, finding server software, and getting a capsule working, all without needing or even wanting much contact with the core community, would seem to be a really positive sign regarding the availability and quality of information, tools, etc. I take it as a sign of good health for the project!

I wonder how many Gemini hosts are out there which people aren't even submitting to GUS and which aren't being crawled because nobody is linking to them?
