Cast

The Meadow Tribe

The Meadow Tribe are a large, peaceful nicheling tribe who live upon a grassy island. They are technically unnamed, as they have historically had little contact with other tribes and so have rarely needed to identify themselves. This is where most of the Snowtouched cast originate.

Main characters

Laana

Laana is one of the Seers of the Sea, an order of nichelings who read omens in the clamshells that wash up on the island's beaches. She grew up alongside her elder sister Reko, but Reko's recent death has left her somewhat adrift. Since then she has been helping to raise Reko's son Yuki, alongside fulfilling her duties to the tribe. Laana is somewhat timid and self-doubting, and has yet to adjust to life without her sister. When not searching for omens she is often seen in the company of her friend Kois.

Kois

Although Kois was born into the Meadow Tribe, she is the child of two wanderers, and traces her ancestry back to the ancient Yukir Tribe, who made their homes in the snowy mountains. However she is many generations removed from the Yukirs, and knows only fragmented stories and legends. Kois is a big, imposing nicheling, but her personality is calm and gentle. She is a friend of Laana's, and the two have been close since childhood. Though unrelated to Yuki she is one of his closest mother-figures, and likes to tell him stories about his heritage.

Yuki

Yuki is the son of Reko, raised by the Seers of the Sea following her death, and especially by his aunt Laana. He was given his name by Kois, who recognised that his white coat and red eyes marked him as the deity of the mountains reborn. But she could tell him only the few, fragmented stories of his past, leaving him to piece together the rest, unsure if he is Yuki or just another oddly coloured nicheling. Outside of his troubles, Yuki is a friendly child who seems to know all of the tribe by name, and swiftly makes friends with any newcomers he meets.

The explorers

A group of young nichelings who decided to accompany Kois, Laana, and Yuki on their journey.

Tanu

A young male on the verge of gaining his third gem, Tanu stands out for his pink coat and venom fangs. He seems perpetually disgruntled, but it hides an insecurity he's trying to shake by going on the journey.

Meana

Meana is still a two-gem, but a powerful hunter in her own right. She joins the expedition in search of adventure, or possibly to keep an eye on Tanu. She is excited at the prospect of hunting mountain creatures such as walrus deer.

Kirro

With his antlers and plain white coat, Kirro would have been a Seer of the Sea if only he was able to open clamshells. Without the ability he remains unsure of what to do with his life, though he masks it with a laid back attitude.

Iskome

Iskome might be the only member of the tribe even more relaxed than Kirro, although she can be vain. She is a black striped digger with a caring nature.

Rara

The eldest of the explorers, Rara is a big grey warrior who was a close companion of Yuki's mother Reko. She chose to undertake the journey to honour her, and though she has no ill-will toward Yuki, she is loyal to Reko's memory more than any other person or ideal.

Kuku

Despite not having the build for himself, Kuku rather fancies himself as a warrior and explorer, and jumped at the chance to join in the expedition. However his true love is plants, and he knows everything there is to know about the flora of his home island. He's excited to see what he can discover on the new island, and will talk at length to anyone to cares to listen, or doesn't.

Donnu and Prinu

Identical twin brothers, who are Kuku's younger cousins. All three of them form a close family unit, so when Kuku decided to go to the next island, the twins were bound to tag along. Prinu is the bolder of the two, while Donnu is more timid.

Others

Silais

The oldest and most respected of the Seers of the Sea, Silais is the closest the Meadow Tribe have to a central authority. She declines to take part in the journey, but helped to raise Yuki and sent her well-wishes to the explorers.

Reko

Reko was the elder sister of Laana and mother to Yuki. Unable to become a seer due to her inability to open clamshells, Reko chose to be a warrior, becoming an inspiration for bored young nichelings throughout the tribe. She died shortly after Yuki's birth, but she was a well known figure within the tribe and her influence remains.

The Taimera Tribe

A jungle dwelling tribe encountered by the Meadow Tribe explorers.

Ki-Roku

Ki-Roku is the jovial leader of the Taimera Tribe. He is fond of jokes, songs, stories, and good food, the latter of which is abundant in the jungle.

Ai-Relare

Ki-Roku's twin sister, and next in line for tribe leadership, Ai-Relare is more subdued than her brother, still mourning the loss of their parents to predators.

Anameis

Anameis is part of the Taimera Tribe via her mother, but currently lives on the outskirts of the tribe's territory. Fortunately for her the jungle is rich with food, and she seems happy enough on her own, although anyone who gets to know her will find her to be a rather clingy friend, albeit also a very loyal one.

Vankirvan

A highly strung, green toxic-body two-gem, Vankirvan is forever trying to look good in Ki-Roku's eyes. Though the prince humours him, he usually finds himself relegated to berry gathering duties - but these are duties he takes very seriously!
