The 10 MeV proton flux has crossed the 10 pfu threshold level at 06:15 UTC January 29, it reached a peak value of 16.3 pfu before decreasing slightly but is currently still above this threshold. The proton flux is expected to remain elevated over the next 24 hours. This proton event was associated with the M6.8 flare near the north-west limb from NOAA AR 3559, which peaked at 04:38 UTC January 29. Coronagraph data is not yet available for this time and so an associated CME signature cannot yet be confirmed.

A fast halo Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) was first observed in the LASCO/C2 coronagraph imagery at 04:24 UTC on January 29. The CME has an estimated projected velocity of around 950 km/s and is related to the M6.8-flare from NOAA AR 3559, with peak time 04:38 UTC. A Type II radio emission associated to this event was also detected at 04:07 UTC. A preliminary analysis suggests that the bulk of the ejecta is expected to miss Earth, however a glancing blow could possibly arrive at Earth on January 31. Further analysis is ongoing.
