A fast forward shock was observed in the solar wind parameters at 08:13 UTC on Nov 5th possibly marking the early ICME arrival of the CME related to the large filament eruption on Nov 3rd. The interplanetary magnetic field (B) values increased from 16 to 25 nT. The plasma density increased from a few to about 20 ppcc. The solar wind velocity jumped from 320 to 421 km/s. The shock was followed up by a gradual increase of the B field up to 34 nT with minimum north-south component (Bz) of -27 nT. Another shock was observed at 11:48 UTC on Nov 5th with further jump of the B field from 23 to 39 nT, a density increase from 26 to 49 ppcc and velocity jump from 419 to 489 km/s. The ICME arrival has caused moderate geomagnetic storms with NOAA Kp reaching 6 in the interval 09-12 UTC on Nov 5th, while locally over Belgium only minor geomagnetic storms have been observed. Further minor to major geomagnetic storms can be expected in the upcoming hours with the possibility of reaching severe geomagnetic storm levels.
