Solar alert

Issued on 2023 Jul 12 0901 UTC

A southward partial halo coronal mass ejection (CME) was first detected in the LASCO/C2 chronograph imagery at 19:24 UTC on July 11th. The CME has an estimated projected velocity close to 750 km/s and is related to an on-disc filament eruption near NOAA AR 3363 (beta). The bulk of the CME is expected to miss Earth, but a glancing blow could arrive at Earth during UTC night on July 14th. The arrival might overlap with an ongoing high speed stream expected for that time and could result in isolated moderate geomagnetic storms. Further analysis is ongoing to better determine the expected impacts.
