Solar alert

Issued on 2023 Jan 03 1237 UTC

A partial halo coronal mass ejection (CME) directed towards the east, first seen in LASCO C2 imagery from 06:48 UTC on January 03, is determined to be associated with a flaring event visible just beyond the south east solar limb and was also associated with TYPE II and Type IV radio emission. Due to the location of the CME's origin no major impact at Earth is expected, however an arrival of the shock wave can not be fully excluded.
