Catania group 76 (NOAA active region 2992) produced an X2.2 flare peaking at 3:57UT, while the region is rounding the western Solar limb. This followed an earlier M7.2 flare from the same region just before, peaking at 1:36 UT. EUV waves and off-disc dimmings indicate the occurrence of associated CMEs, which will be analysed closer as coronagraph images become available. As the region is currently at the west Solar limb, the possibility of an Earth directed component must currently be evaluated as limited.
