Solar alert

Issued on 2021 Apr 29 2018 UTC

Solar wind parameters show a weak fast forward shock as measured by DSCOVR data at 18:44UT. Speed jumped from 329 to 349 km/s and magnetic field from 5.9 to 8.5nT. Also weak jumps in density and temperature were associated. These could be signatures of a faster than expected arrival of the April 25 CME which was only expected tomorrow but may have been faster than estimated. If this is the case, then geomagnetic activity may rise up to active or minor storm levels depending on the magnetic field carried within the ICME.
