I actually really liked it. It looks beautiful throughout, and has an amazing, rousing orchestral score. It certainly maintains the spirit of the source material, and has all the romance, sword fighting, and political machinations that you'd expect. The main thing I'd fault it for is that there isn't much to set it apart from other medieval or swashbuckling films of the era, except for the fact that it was based on a popular (at the time) newspaper comic.
