Dick Tracy's Dilemma

1947

3/5

A Dick Tracy movie that does pretty much what you'd expect: Have Tracy do a bunch of detective work to find a killer who happens to have some kind of physical deformity and a name that calls attention to it. This time it's The Claw, and he robbed somebody's safe and killed a couple people in order to do insurance fraud, I guess. The ending was pretty anticlimactic, but it was enjoyable getting there. There were some delightful character interactions, and some very interesting detective scenes, where they decipher the scribblings of a dying man, and when they use a giant model of a rotary phone to figure out what number the killer dialed. I can't say I was ever in suspense, but I was never bored.

All in all, it's a pretty standard 40s detective film, but one definitely worth watching.
