Anyone think it's about time we started spinning up servers and linking them together using their own bespoke protocol stack in order to create a new, independent network that once again returns control to the individual?

But how would you connect remote computers without the internet? Mesh network?

+1 to #589 #569 - there are meshnets in some cities (New York, Freifunk, the one in Greece). It takes a lot of physical resources to create one, not just starting servers

Yeah, that's too bad, and most good frequencies are reserved too. There's also the problem that people in rural areas wouldn't be easily reached by such a network
