Yesterday night I stayed up late to make an early access WIP release of a new space shooter to my 'Benefactor' monthly supporters. But today I have a gift for everyone. Today I released the new AIOstreams scripts package v1.7.5 with new features and fixes.

This is the 3rd-anniversary release of AIOstreams. As of today, 3 years ago, the first-ever AIOstreams package was released, and I am still looking at where those years have gone. But the package has grown a lot since then and there are a lot of people using it or building their own solutions with my scripts, which is a pleasure to see happening.

But let's see what is coming with this new release. There are a lot of fixes at the live, peertube and vimeo, that stopped working some time ago, because of changes in the respective websites. The lbrytv script now supports the odyssee.com website, and the youtube script supports the yewtu.be, an alternative website based on the Invidious platform.

But there is more. I added one more argument to the youtube script, the -sc, which can be used to search for channels, like:

This will return a list of channels that match the description you provided. The list will include an RSS URL which you can use in any RSS feed reader you might have installed in your system. I like to use eNewsReader by Chris Handley.

This way you can track the newly released videos from your beloved channels easily and fast as you do with any news website.

But how are you going to watch this video, I hear you asking. If the RSS feed reader you are using makes use of URLOpen, I included a small script in the package named start_youtube. You can use that to add one more button at the HTTPS protocol tab at URL prefs, to make it start playing the video with aiostreams youtube script. If your preferred RSS feed application uses OpenURL, you can do the same thing with it.

So here you are. With my scripts and the configuration I described above, you change any RSS feed to YouTube subscription tracker on your AmigaOS 4 system. Who said we need a bloated browser to watch our beloved creators on YouTube?

I believe that all my scripts would work fine on MorphOS, as long as there is a good streaming video player and python2 package, supporting all the features. But to be honest, I haven't tried it yet. If anyone of you tries it and has issues, please let me know.
