My first game port for AmigaOS 4

13 August 2022

For the last few days, I have been experimenting with porting different kinds of software to AmigaOS 4.1. Today I completed and released the binaries of BlobWars: Attrition, a game by Parallel Realities.

As the developers describe it:

> Blob Wars : Attrition is a mission and objective-based 2D platform action arcade game.

The game is the third one of the BlobWars series and is great fun to play. It requires SDL2 and some strong machine and graphics card to play it on full HD.

In the archive of my port, no data files are included since this is available to buy it online at a low price, a good way to support the developers as well. I highly recommend you go and buy it and spend some time with this awesome game.

I played the game on my AmigaOne X5000/40 with a RadeonRX 550. For this to run smoothly with no slowdowns, especially when there is a lot of action and enemies on the screen, I needed to set the SDL2 to use opengles2 and enable the batching mode. Depending on your hardware, please experiment with those configs, so to get the best result.

I tested it also on my microAmigaOne if it is playable, but unfortunately, the small amount of graphics memory (max 32MB) was running out quite fast, making the game crawl. Maybe there are tricks I could do, of which I am not aware yet.

The source code, along with my changes to make it work under AmigaOS 4.1 FE, can be found in my GIT repository. You can download the binary from there and soon from OS4Depot.

I hope you will enjoy that game and if you have any issues with it, please do not hesitate to contact me.
