Note 13

Home again, home again. I'm now back at my desk at home in Malmö after almost a week in Gothenburg. Slept on the train almost all the way home.

Spent most of the time at work this week just talking with colleagues. Maybe that's also work? On Tuesday we went out to dinner, cocktails and beers. The next day I woke up in tears. During the day I felt like I had lost at least 30 IQ points. Sad, stupid and guilty.

Nice AW on Friday. Discussed, among other things, black powder guns when it turned out a colleague had several. At midnight we were just five people left and we decided to watch Hackers (1995). I approve!

My hotel had some strange water leak or perhaps someone's bathroom was flooded. Water started dripping down from the ceiling in my room on Wednesday. I mentioned it to the staff at once, of course, and they made the right worried sounds but nothing happened. It was still dripping when I left the room Saturday morning.

The Sisters of Mercy concert in Stockholm seems to have been pretty bad. People couldn't hear Andrew? This, perhaps, makes me a little bit less sad about missing the Malmö concert. Here's a great Sisters concert from 1985 instead:

Bonus, Fields of the Nephilim live in concert from 1990:

Read about Netflix letting people go and the incredible salaries people there seem to have. On the other hand if they can be let go at any time they probably need some compensation. Seems really stressful. I am, again, glad that I'm not living in the US. I feel anxious enough as it is. I would probably be homeless in the US. Or dead. Perhaps an opportunity to be grateful?

Found someone offering Raspberry Pi hosting again:

I find it interesting that they offer them as IPv6 only but has an HTTP proxy in front to make it possible to reach web services over legacy Internet. This is probably the way things will be going forward.

I experimented with the River Wayland compositor. It's written in Zig and uses a dwm-like layout by default. I'm currently using the rivercarro tiling layout engine so I get the much missed monocle mode as well. I'm using the small river-tag-overlay program to help me orient amongst the tags but no statusbar, even though I tried a few and found levee the nicest. So far I only have it running on my monster tower but it looks really nice. Probably even better on a smaller laptop screen.

For some reason GTK Emacs and Firefox draws these fat GTK title bars, though! I have tried in different ways to get rid of them but haven't succeeded yet.
