Note #11

Morning, computer!

I'm back in Malmö. It's my extra day off. I'm going to spend the day reading about retro-computing, writing something about it, and packing for the week at HQ.

I slept in yesterday. Stayed up until ~03 talking to friends over video and drinking beer. It works really good, at least after we get audio working. Still wondering why audio is so difficult. I'm happy to have FTTH in the cottage. I actually have a better network connection there than in the flat in central Malmö! I forgot to bring my external microphone this time, though.

The battery in my main x230 seems to have leaked something. Dammit. It's still holding power, though, but I don't know if I dare to use it. I tried a few of the batteries I had laying about but many of them won't charge at all and the one that did had only 1432 mAh when last full!

I guess I'll have to buy a third-party battery. But first have to try patching Lenovo's fucking Embedded Controller to make non-brand batteries work at all:

As usual, I'm going by train to Gothenburg this evening. I like trains. Not quite looking forward to travelling or living a week in a hotel room, though. I find it quite stressful. I still haven't found any good strategies to cope. This time I didn't even get one of the usual hotels which makes things slighlty worse. I've been running around at home in a mild panic for hours.

Time passes.

Finally at the hotel! I'm writing this at ~21. Original ETA Gothenburg C was 19:35 but there had been an accident and the train went around the city of Helsingborg. Then the train computer crashed! Really! The driver rebooted the train (funny!) but it didn't allow her to drive so fast until a number of checks had passed. Sensible, I guess, but a bit frustrating.

My hotel room is on the ninth floor. I have no LTE coverage. The wifi isn't very good either. With a bit of luck the AP learns that there are several devices here... There are two very tempting RJ45 ports in the room but I have neither a TP cable nor my USB-Ethernet dongle with me this time. Talk to me about modern computers without RJ45 ports... On the other hand, if I look down from the window I can see a hot tub! No people in it, though, and I'm really not in the mood either. Perhaps another night.
