Greetings, programs!

I'm back for another life update.

A lot of travelling right now. Two trips to Gothenburg and another trip to Stockholm. More travelling coming up, unfortunately.

Spent an entire week in Gothenburg preparing for our own TKey production/provisioning in the offices. Working a lot of evenings and late nights. This is not working 80%! This is more like 160%! We're a bit behind schedule. Going back there next week.

Presenting TKey at Netnod Meeting

On Tuesday this week I presented Tillitis TKey in English at the Netnod Meeting in Stockholm. The slides and the recording should be up soon.

I presented in the morning on the first day, thankfully, because there was a very nice social event with an open bar in the evening and I think many people were... tired the next day. Thanks, Siri, for putting me on the first day of the schedule!

I was very nervous before and during the talk and had to rely on my notes quite a bit. Sorry! Doing the talk in English put a lot of extra pressure on me. I got some good questions during the Q&A and had amazing chats after the talk so I think at least some people enjoyed it anyway.

A big thanks to Netnod for arranging things so nicely and especially to Siri @ Netnod.

I also made it to The Monday Club geek after work event in the cellar vaults of the medieval restaurant Sjätte tunnan again. This time someone had brought an electric piano and people took turns playing.

Concert with film and game music

Malmö Symphony Orchestra played fantasy film and game music a couple of days ago! Things like "The Rains of Castlemere", "The Dragonborn Comes", and "Willow's theme". I went there with P.

Surprise extra number: "Queen of the Night aria" from Mozart's The Magic Flute, magically sung by Sabina Zweiacker!!! "Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen". Wow!

hack.org vs gmail.com

It seems gmail.com thinks all mail from hack.org addresses is spam these days. This is a huge problem for me and my users.

I've tightened down the SPF record to:

hack.org.       3600    IN      TXT     "v=spf1 ip4:193.138.217.67 ip6:2a03:1b20:1:f203::2:3 -all"

I have also removed all aliases forwarding mail to a gmail.com address. With a little luck this will eventually make it work...

It seems individual users of gmail.com can teach it to handle hack.org mail better by clicking "this is not spam" on several messages which will eventually work. Please check your spam folder if you are expecting messages from hack.org addresses!

I guess I might have to start using DKIM but I haven't got the spoons right now.

Kitchen renovation in cottage

The kitchen renovation in our cottage has started. They removed the floor and found it rotten! They also found buried electric cables in the walls without conduits! WTF!?

A couple of weeks ago during one of my Gothenburg trips we received all the kitchen cabinets. It was just a driver with a van so we needed help unloading. We called in a few friends and everything worked out without me being there. Phew!

All the cabinets are now standing in the living room waiting for the kitchen to be ready for them.

Paris

I'm heading to Paris in early April for a family vacation. We go by train from Malmö, through Copenhagen, Hamburg, Karlsruhe and finally Paris. On the way home we go through Cologne and stay for the night.

I would like find some underground culture in Paris: goths, EBM or industrial music fans, hackers, phreakers, CCC-like activists, anything. All the things I love when visiting, say, Berlin or Amsterdam.

I've met people from La Quadrature du Net before, but I can't find any meetups or anything. Any 2600 meetups? Chaostreffen? Other organisations I should know about?

Nightclubs or bars I shouldn't miss? La Cantada II seems to be closed. That was a nice combination otherwise: a heavy metal absinthe bar with a zombie/monster theme! Nice!

Any squats? What's the Anarchist scene like?

IRC channels or Matrix rooms for any of these things I should be aware of? Anyone?

I also recently found It's Black Friday's vlog from her Paris visit:

Part 1

Part 2

Summary

TL;DW: They were refused entry to the Louvre for being too goth. Then harassed by security guards at Père Lachaise and forced to delete video and held against their will after closing time!

It's also interesting to see a lot of people staring and almost lining up to take photos with the couple. I don't quite understand what's happening here. Is there no goth scene in France?

Should I be worried? I don't regularly wear makeup, but sometimes nail polish, wear all black, et cetera... Our kid is also always dressed in black, has a gothy haircut, use black nail polish and sometimes black makeup.

There also seems to be a lot of protests and strikes in France right now. While I sympathize with the protests I'm also slightly worried about not being able to take the train all the way and getting stuck somewhere.

Subpixel anti-alias

If all you see on an antialiased white text on a black background are a lot of small rainbows I have the solution. Add this to your ~/.fonts.conf to turn of subpixel anti-alias completely:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "urn:fontconfig:fonts.dtd">
<fontconfig>
  <description>Disable sub-pixel rendering</description>
  <match target="pattern">
    <edit name="rgba" mode="assign"><const>none</const></edit>
  </match>
</fontconfig>

My browser is still not looking good but it's even worse if I turn off AA completely. Anyone know of any good bitmapped Sans Serif, preferably directly downloadable in OTB format? I already have nice alternatives for monospace fonts, like the OTB version of Terminus.

Take care, everyone,
