Wow. Been on a Covid ride. Was struck down by fever last Sunday and was hardly up from bed until Friday, really. My whole body ached and everything was terrible for days.

P was struck with a severe fever already on Midsummer's Eve and was out for days. Then it was my turn to dive into fever.

One of my worst fever dreams was when I was trying to sleep, body all aching, and then, on the verge of sleeping still being unable to... unless I fixed this... bug... in my consciousness code. Then I was really awake again, sitting up and coughing, perhaps drinking some water, and then back to trying to sleep and/or this dream again. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Ad nauseam. Still couldn't find that bug!

Covid? Can't be sure, but P has a vector. She had been at a conference and fell ill a few days after coming back. Several people from the conference tested positive.

We were already in our cottage. No tests around here. But at a guess it was really Covid. And mild cases, I guess.

Planned the summer somewhat. Quite stressful to do that but I managed. Really, really hate planning travels. I've read somewhere that planning future travels makes some people happy! What!?

Yes, we're travelling a bit. Not looking forward to it, really. The transport itself might be good or bad, depending, but planning routes and buying tickets is the worst!

When I turned 30 I got a card from my closest friends saying "Congratulations, old man!". Thanks, guys! Thought again about celebrating turning 50... I decided don't want a big celebration. I don't want fucking catering and renting some place to have a big party. Especially I don't want a lot of hassle. Instead, I think I'm going to ask my friends just to come for an evening of friendly socializing over some wine and music. That's it. No presents, nothing fancy. Sounds good to me.

My parents (divorced) also want me to celebrate with them, somehow, and I'm thinking we'll travel ~900 km x2 to make it. Probably going to end up with two dinners: one for my dad and his wife and one for my mom and her husband.

I'm now the proud owner of "Programming in Modula-2" 2nd ed (1983) by Niklaus Wirth himself. A dear friend found a copy for me.

The same friend just the other day became a US citizen. We discussed citizenship things on IRC, as you do, and I was reminded about the explicit social contract in the alternate history Libertatia in Burroughs's The Red Nights trilogy. Not such a bad idea?

Burroughs for president!

(Obama-style poster in red-white-blue with a drawn portrait of an elderly William S. Burroughs and the text "Burroughs".)

Now I want to re-read the trilogy!

Finished The Expanse #4. Really good.

My habanero is getting a lot of fruits. I pick fresh fruits every day and chop it to sprinkle on my food. The Carolina Reaper has one, tiny little fruit. I've given it a lot of time but I guess I'll just give up and eat it soon. The new Scorpion yellow is too new to give fruit yet, but seems happy.

Been spending some time planning a stag party. It's going to be pretty nice against the groom but memorable, I hope.
