Some people found out about Béla Fleck and the Flecktones because they opened for Dave Matthews Band in the late 90s. Matthews himself makes a cameo on this record, but let's not talk about him. This is an album of transcendent, genre-defying mostly instrumentals (though they speak/sing on this one much more than their previous albums). With Fleck's virtuoso (checks notes) banjo playing, and of course Future Man on the synthaxe drumitar, the Flecktones deliver a style that is hard to pin down but easy to fall in love with. You really just have to listen to it. An absolutely great album.
