Vous pouvez trouver ici certains des albums de Garvalf, en version lofi ogg vorbis (pour un streaming plus rapide), dans un seul fichier. Ceci pour encourager la diffusion de musiques sur le gemspace. Des versions mp3 et flac hautes qualités se trouvent sur l'espace Bandcamp.

Ce type de musique, qui date des années 1990, est à la croisée du "Black Metal" et du "Dark Ambient". C'est du metal sans guitares, et généralement sans instruments acoustiques, d'où le terme de "Synth" pour bien préciser ce point. Le donjon fait référence au passé médiéval, mais plus généralement à tout ce qui a trait aux univers "heroic fantasy". En effet, une large part est faite à l'imaginaire, à la projection qu'on peut se faire par rapport à des fictions telles que celles développées par Tolkien ou Michael Moorcock, mais certains musiciens préfèrent créer des thèmes complètement originaux, sans références connues.
Point à préciser, une certaine inspiration musicale, contrairement aux "dark ambient" pur et dur, provient également de vieux jeux vidéos, avec la rudesse des processeurs sonores d'antan.
Tout ceci en fait un genre à part entière, avec ses propres codes, mais aussi une vraie liberté de création. Malgré ceci, on trouvera difficilement par exemple certains traits des musiques actuelles, ou des références au monde moderne, l'idée étant de s'éloigner le plus possible de ce dernier, dans un processus régressif où se retrouvent une nostalgie adolescente, une évasion des problèmes quotidiens et une volonté d'onirisme qui peuvent exister ailleurs, certes, mais sous une forme bien différente (dans le "synthwave" peut-être, le pendant retrofuturiste du "dungeon synth" ?)

Les musiques chiptune sont un condensé du savoir-faire de l'informatique d'antan (8-bit, parfois plus, parfois moins), où toutes les notes sont égrenées sans interprétation surjouée, un peu comme avec une boîte à musique, voire un orgue de barbarie, et l'émotion suscitée sera uniquement due à la pertinence des compositions.
Nostalgie et onirisme seront néanmoins de mise, car n'importe quelle époque et lieu peuvent être évoqués et invoqués de cette manière...
