State of my headphone stash — Nov 2022

Creative Aurvana Live! (1gen, not 2)

Sony MDR-ZX110NC with AAA-powered ANC — fresh purchase

Xiaomi Piston V3 in-ear, probably counterfeit

Creative SoundBlaster Jam! — Bluetooth

Bluedio Vinyl Premium — Bluetooth

(Lenovo TP5 TWS wireless in-ear — yet to arrive, possibly counterfeit)

I have the above bunch in current use. They serve me in different circumstances.

Creative Aurvana Live!

It's the 1-gen ones (with permanent cable and regular-shaped oval casings), not the Live!2 ones (with detachable cable, and with a microphone inline on it).

They serve me long. I ordered them back when still underage, from a guy who I know used to work in Polkomtel if it wasn't his current occupation even, doing recablings of these taken from repairshop returns, per orders from Allegro (a Polish online marketplace) offers.

The trebles sometimes go too hard on them with some DACs, but that's more on the DACs. Definitely my most preferred, monitor so to say, sound. But a bit too large, however very light, to wear on ears comfortably for too long. But that's not on them either, it's just that I don't fancy wearing headphones for too long, am just sensitive to that kind of fatigue.

Their cable is some Australian thick copper with its insulation in a nylon knit. These days the plug's rubber sometimes doesn't hold in well enough and thus using this cable sometimes gives off an impression of fragility on me. And as they're precious for me, I avoid having them too much.

They're also fragile structurally — their forks were even said to be fragile to me by the guy himself iirc; that's as he frequented those very repairshops much so he saw.

Sony MDR-ZX110NC — cable headphones with AAA-powered ANC —&amplifier

A very recent purchase. As in, they literally arrived like yesterday (as of today being Nov 16th).

They were supposed to sound just as good with the battery-function ANC switched off — well they don't, they sound absolutely crap without it and then get a great quality and amplifier when it's switched on. There's just one switch, no non-ANC quality for you in case you needed it!

They can be considered somewhat comparable with the CAL! when they're _on_.

in-ear Xiaomi Piston V3 (probably)

In-ear headphones from Xiaomi, once very much praised. Another ones to honorably mention high up (well, it was to be so… until i decided to mention the Sony as 2nd) as the ones I bought when in high school i think (if not, then it could only be even earlier).

Those were off AliExpress hunting — from which I had, iirc, several versions of V3 or some other Basics, that had a range of worse sound usually; I also had a, possibly counterfeit, Piston V2 headphones, that in their modernist/brutalist metal design were quickly disintegrating, with the driver-lids staying in my ears with the rest hanging on cables.

They've been doing great with my quite high output Benjie K11/K8plus mp3 player for quite some time now. It once took me a while to select them from all the ones I collected over years, when I got myself that player.

But an mp3 player is my mostly only device I can use cabled headphones with

And that's not because any of my devices lack a 3.5mm jack — none do.

My Redmi Note 9 Pro has an atrociously low volume and iirc the sound itself beyond that wasn't of appreciation to me either. It even has modes of preset equalizer supposedly adapted to their models of earphones, however with a mess in available models there, but I had no liking to them with that either.

Listening on cable when at desk isn't something I like — and it's terribly unhealthy to be tied to desk like that, too!

That is why, when I'm not using speakers and I want something not loaded onto my MP3, unless I'm watching a movie or a series, I'm opting for Bluetooth.

The Bluetooth ones

Creative SoundBlaster JAM!

Quite great gift from my dad. Very lightweight, once made me go back to frequent listening habit again. I could even run in them, unlike in either of the Bluedio mentioned below. Surprisingly good sound quality for the form factor and iirc not particularly high price range.

I absolutely love their connection process with the NFC tag, and even without it I recall it to be less problematic than in other stuff.

Their BASS button feature is not bad usually. I usually keep it on, despite my dislike for bass boosts in general.

But it's just that, making them have the bass for music, these drivers are too small for the _heavy_ hunes really — however enough to enjoy them, often not satisfying.

Bluedio Vinyl Premium

Purchased after somewhat enjoying Bluedio Turbine T4s, and having replaced them when the former died, however not entirely — there's no ANC, there's no impression of being waterproof, and the pillows twist off somewhat easily. They also were more expensive (bought on a promo).

Much bass, switching to them to listen to something, especially heavier, makes one cringe from all the exaggregacious bass.

They are however my ones to go for when I really want Bluetooth and I really want to play something loud and bassly on my ears.

Since I handed them to my gf for use though, I haven't yet wanted to bother with switching the paired device on them, I just hate these UIs so to call them.

so I ordered the Lenovo TP5 in-ear wireless

Some Youtube comparison was favorable to them, and they were about $10. They will arrive to me from abroad. So yea, imma try out some haha-airpods. Maybe it will be something I will like to carry around? Or maybe my ear will turn out to be completely unsuitable? Haha how will they be

And so that's it. It's like, a comparative review kinda? Will I ever detail it further or something? Smh smh
