First day email moment

I've tried to keep people's names out of these stories, but I can't anonymise this one.

It was my first day at a new job. As with most jobs, the first day was slow. They wasn't anything much to do yet. Oh wait, email arrived - something to break the monotony. I opened it and smiled. The surname of the sender was Trebilcock. I looked across at my colleague opposite who was also on her first day.

"Have you seen? There's an email from someone called 'treble cock'."

But as the words came out of my mouth, I was aware that there was someone I didn't know standing behind me. You can guess who it was. He said "It's pronounced 'Tre-bilko'."

Oops. Have I made a work enemy on my first day, or upset some big cheese? After he's finished talking to my boss (who's heard what happened) I go over to her.

"I think I might have just upset that man."

"Oh, don't worry," she says. "His father used to work here, and *his* name was 'treble-cock'. He was known as 'Thrice Blessed'."
