British GP 🏁

Hamilton was obviously faster at the start, and Verstappen defended for half a lap. Then Hamilton went for a gap that wasn't there and knocked Verstappen off the track. At one-hundred-and-something mph. The impact with the wall was huge, but the tyre barrier was deep enough to stop him being killed. He got out looking pretty dazed.

Red flag, race restart, and the stewards give Hamilton a 10 second penalty. That's... nothing. Verstappen is lucky to be alive. There was apparently a diagram that Mercedes sent to the stewards explaining why it was all within the rules. I'd like to see that. Hamilton carried on making passes at the same corner.

Leclerc was in front most of the race, and a win for him would have been my favourite thing: the surprise success of the underdog. But Hamilton passed him right at the end. You can guess where. Leclerc ran wide, maybe because he made a mistake, or maybe because he'd seen what happened earlier.

I don't think that Hamilton would deliberately hit someone. But what he did was pretty stupid. Maybe he has trouble with being challenged. Often the only people who might challenge him are team mates, and the more competitive they've been, the worse it's gone. And this year, for the first time in ages, there's an outside challenge.
