Are trans dommes unusual?

Further to an old post of mine:

“A(nother) kink road less travelled?”

i recently mentioned on a queer+tgd dating app that i'd had

> a conversation with a trans sub who was bemoaning the lack of trans domme porn and trans dommes more generally. Are we really that uncommon? My impression is that i'm unusual for being a trans woman who basically only tops, but to what extent are most trans women predominantly bottoms?

i found the responses interesting:

A trans masc person, in their early 60s, said that their experience was that the distribution basically reflected the general queer population: switches being the largest group, followed by bottoms slightly more common than tops.

Another trans masc person, in their mid 20s, said that their experience was that a lot of trans women are expected to top, resulting in them subsequently having an increased desire to bottom.

A trans femme person, in their late 20s, said that they end up topping as a result of knowing what they're into and having the relevant skills, such that their non-toppy desires can get deprioritised.

Another trans femme person, in their early 40s, said that every time she's dated a trans woman who said they were a switch, they turned out to be a bottom.

A third trans femme person, in their early 30s, said that they'd not encountered trans tops in Sydney, and only some in Melbourne.

A nonbinary person, in their late 20s, said that the trans femme people they know are either switches or service tops.

In one conversation, i wondered if what might be happening - at least in part - is that people are trying to convey that they can't find trans dommes _who meet their other requirements_. Like, for example, how a cishet woman might bemoan a lack of men: it's not that there aren't available men _per se_, which there clearly are, it's that there aren't available men _who have the desired characteristics_.

i'd love to know whether there's any academic research on this topic ....
