How Many Computers Do You Have?

I did a little inventory for myself.

I don’t have a solid definition of what constitutes a computer here, but I assume that all of these contain some part that works as a von Neumann machine.

Laptop, old and slow as it may be.

Five Raspberry Pi SBCs of different generations: two servers, one as gaming console, and two currently unused.

Phone.

Pulse watch.

TV (has built-in chromecast; maybe that counts as an extra?)

Kobo e-book reader.

Two PDAs. Planning to recycle those since I never get around to actually using them for anything.

The less obvious.

Do bluetooth speaker and airpods count?

Did you know that some USB chargers today have more computer capacity than the computer used for the moon landing?

Smart lightbulb.

Fiber converter and router.

Probably Not Computers

I initially listed the following as well, but after discussing it with others we've reached the conclusion that they probably don't have micro chips. Regulators and logic chips, sure, but not really computing capacity per se.

Kettle. It has a bunch of features..

Remotes and a game pad.

Fridge/freezer.

Oven, stove fan.

LEDs.

Wireless keyboard, and its USB receiver.

A fun little inventory. It opened my eyes to just how digital an even just almost modern household is.
