> Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. - Matthew 6:34

> Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. - I Corinthians 6:13

> We blossom and flourish like leaves on the tree, then whither and perish, but nought changeth thee. - old hymn

My whole working life I have come across people who worry daily about their retirement. When they can retire, what their pension will be, Social Security, Medicare. A week ago I met with a guy in his 70s who has 10 more years to live if he is lucky, and his take on current US politics is "so long as I still get my Social Security".

I've been fortunate to have pretty good health. My care for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and recurring instances of skin cancer has been subsidized by my wife's insurance. In a "normal" market I think I could have handled reasonable medical bills for these problems without insurance. I do not judge even in my mind against those who need lots of subsidy to stay alive. But I am pretty sure I will want to go straight to hospice when God begins his destruction of my body in earnest. I think I might want to take up smoking a pipe again, and maybe even marijuana if it becomes legal here by then. I've lived a good life, way better than I had reason to expect in my youth. I hope I will yield it up gracefully and leave a decent inheritance to my wife and step family and a local children's home and maybe even a church when the time comes.
