2020-10-30 Bret Weinstein moderates James Lindsey and Jesse Singal

video of discussion

I was surprised to see this meeting between two thinkers that I esteem who have been diverging rather starkly of late. Singal had recently been pretty harsh and dismissive of Lindsey. I think it appropriate that they met on Weinstein's unity2020 platform that has been deplatformed from Twitter for a couple of weeks. Lindsey a couple days ago announced his vote is going for Trump and Singal is nearly unequivacable ("nearly" being the key word) in his determination to vote for Biden. Singal characterized much of Lindsey's thinking as conspiracy theorizing, and both Weinstein and Lindsey argued that Singal is largely blind to how dangerous wokism has become. Bret and James got Jesse to concede a 5-10% chance he might be underestimating the threat, which they were happy with. Jesse was also not buying that "equity" is a motte and bailey word trap by the woke, which James and more significantly Bret pushed back on. As I recall, near the end Bret called for a toast and Jesse proposed to use םייחל (L'chiam - to life). James demurred he didn't know how to say it, and Jesse helped him and James said it. Kind of touching that 3 atheists (though I'm not certain about Singal's professed faith) should unite on a toast made in the sacred language of Judaism. I was left with the hope that the three will develop a better understanding of the state of our politics. I think all three are more lovers of truth than faction.

Note: םייחל displays correctly right to left in vim, but via the web proxy at

https://proxy.vulpes.one/gemini/envs.net/~mukappa/2020-10-30.gmi

it displays backwords right to left. Blah.
